Hi

I have a 1.2 punto 8 valve Y reg.

When I start the car from cold and drive off, after a couple of minutes there is a high pitched whine from the engine area.

If you blip the throttle the whine increases in pitch and then stops. It then doesnt re-occur until the car has got completely cold. The whine only lasts a few seconds.

If you start the car and leave it running to warm up, it doesn't do it.

Anyone any idea what it could be ?

cam belt tensioner bearing
or slipping alternator belt

I checked the fanbelt and it's not that.

I'll get the garage to check the cambelt tensioner, it's in for a service and MOT tomorrow.

Cam belt mate. My mk1 does the same. Getting a new one shortly

Does anyone know if the Cambelt or tensioner packs up if it is as serious in a Punto as it is in my Alfa 156 TwinSpark ?

In the Alfa, if the cambelt goes it usually knackers the valves etc.
