Thanks for the advice everyone.

I have had a play this afternoon, and have made some semi progress. This is the state of play atm:

- changed fuel pump
- changed coil pack (s)
- checked and cleaned all the earths
- checked fuse box

The car will now run at idle fine, however as soon as I try to apply any gas the car hits 2.5k, and dies. This leads me to believe that the problem is not with either the HT leads or the spark plugs, as I would have expected the idle to be lumpy and this is not the case. I will upload a video of the issue at some point.

Well done. From moving backwards we are on a forward journey.

Video was very helpful.

Looks like its loosing quite an important sensor.

There is few that are affected by speed or the amount of air flowing.

But the only one I can thing of that would cause such a catastrophic failure would be the crank position sensor. Never seen one fail like that. They normally fail over time as they warm up. But a quick Google search picked up this.

Yep, thats what I reckon. Cam timing tends to be a more "wooly" cutoff. This seems instant, and the crank sensor failing fits the symptoms pretty well.
(Other possibilities include wiring/connectors to MAP sensor etc. but they normally give P0105/P0110 errors.)

Might be tempted to just change it anyway...

If it turns out to be the crank sensor, don't just buy the cheapest one you can find... there seem to be some really bad ones out there at the moment (not just for Pandas). They seem to work for a short while and then either go flaky or fail completely.
Try Shop4Parts or go for a known brand.

I'll put a shilling on cambelt jumped a tooth or two.
54 plate should be earlier spec engine, square oil cap, so no cam sensor. So ECU will not read the out of phase camshaft as all taken from crank sensor.

Get the covers off and check the cambelt timing marks.

It does have the ,"square oil cap"!! I will get the covers off an check that before I go straight for a sensor.

Cheers!!

Thanks, what are the ,"better known" brands for this part? If you can point me on the right direction I will then be able to pick up the correct kit for the job.

Also, no error codes, but I am minded to buy the kit that gives a live readout.

Last one I bought was a Facet branded one but I have heard (but not yet seen) ones with phony brand name packaging being sold online. I have (unfortunately) had 2 unbranded ones fail within weeks of installation (not purchased or fitted by me, but both caused annoying breakdowns)

Always up to the individual, but I would stick with a reliable supplier for bits like this, rather than end up with some fake kit that doesn't do the job. It's just too easy for some a****le to print a logo on a card and heatseal it in a plastic bag along with some knock-off component.

Brand names include Bosch, Magnetti Marelli, Valeo, Lucas. Possibly others I can't think of immediately.
Euro offer this: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/F...b6deddbf3dd06521b4e99a701efd6871047f9b&000440
It is a Magnetti Marelli, so probably OE.

These guys are trustworthy, and Facet is a good brand. Known for fuel pumps, they probably buy this in, but will only source good stuff.

Wel chaps, it was the Crank Positioning sensor, now runs like a dream. Bought this - Magneti Marelli Product Code: 419650370. The old sensor was a bit stiff to get out. Jacked the car up on the driver side, put some blocks of wood under it just in case it failed. One screw hold the sensor in. It appears to have been in there a while, as i prised it out, it was very brittle and fell apart in my hand. The new one slid right in.

Really appreciate the help, and hopefully someone in in the future will find this useful!.:slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer:
