Hello Forum! Just joined up on the Forum having purchased a Panda Cross 1.3 Multijet. So a little advice please: I want to change the air filter. I ordered a Crosland (paper) filter which has arrived today. The thing is, it doesn't have the foam strip backing (on the inner edge) along the paper fins, but was specified as the correct filter for my car's model year (2010) by euro car parts (the supplier); the filter currently in the car has a foam strip.
Having looked on eBay and other sites, some filters seem to have a foam strip backing and others not. Has anyone any thoughts? Presumably the foam strip adds an extra level of air filtration, so is a filter without the foam O.K?
Any advice much appreciated. Thanks in anticipation. A great Forum!!(y)

Problem sorted (sort of)...... [FONT=&quot]the supplier, euro car parts, have informed me 'the part does not come with the foam and the foam is generally used for environment with dusty conditions and the part you ordered is the correct one.' So I guess it is O.K. not having the foam. Perhaps the engine will perform better without the addition of foam to the filter?

sounds like bull**** to me mate ;) (y)

A 4*4 unless a Chelsea Tractor for the school run, tends to be a car more likely to run in dusty conditions.
Send it back ! - they are taking the ****.
Buy a genuine Fiat one. It does a superb job. Far better than Crossland or any after-market unit.

You don't believe that Fiat makes it's own filters do you????

All car manufacturers have supply deals with at 3 filters suppliers such as Coopers, Purflux, Crossland, etc etc etc. Just because it's bought at a Fiat garage and comes in a Fiat box doesn't make it any better, just more expensive.

I will rephrase it then Dave, but a genuine OEM one, not some useless piece of ****e from a spotty thick teenager on work experience at a dodgy pile em high sell em cheap parts company who then gives you pathetic excuses as to why they don't want it back when it is obviously totally wrong.......
It is not something you change everyday. I am perfectly happy to buy from a Fiat main dealer as opposed to 'scam bay' - 'Euro / China / Rebadged Parts' etc where a name on a box means absolutely sod all as the chinks are great at copying.. probably made out of rice paper. (y)

also, just because it is bought at a fiat garage DOES make it better as it is obviously far more likely to be the correct part and not lead to excessive / irreparable wear to your engine through their neglegence.

is that better.. hmmm ?? :D

To conclude on this, I decided to take the filter back to a euro car parts outlet and received a full refund. Bought the 'real thing' (with foam backing) from a Fiat dealer; £19.64 including VAT- not cheap, but at least it's kosher:)
Now at least I, and the car, can breath easy!
Cheers All.
