Technical 100HP Bluetooth Connection

Some phones are a nightmare to connect, took me a few hours to connect two Nokia 5800s yet a Nokia N95 did it on the first try.

Perseverance is the key
(y)

Is there an idiots guide?? When I try to connect I just get an italian lady shouting at me!

There should be a manual for the Bluetooth system with your car. I'll get my book out of the car and post the instructions, unless someone beats me to it!

My old-but-faithful Sony Ericsson P910i connected first-time and yet when I got a Nokia N97, it would never pair. After that phone froze and then was subsequently fixed by Vodafone, it now connects to the Panda.

For the N97, I ignored the manual as I was away from home at the time. This is what I did:

- Have phone's Bluetooth enabled and visible to other devices
- Turn car's ignition on
- On the phone's Bluetooth settings, search for devices
- If it finds the car 'Phone v3.15' select that
- Enter passcode '1234'
- Phone and car should pair

I think that's it?! If necessary, I can refer to the manual.

I thought it should be that easy. The phone finds "phone v3.15" but the connection always fails, don't even get the chance to do the 1234 passcode. Will keep trying.

I managed to connect my nokia as above - when picking up the car saturday, I left the dealers thinking I can set it up when i get home but I never had a manual - guessed at the 1234 and was pretty chuffed when it worked.

Not tried it yet but the phone just freezes when I press any of the phone related buttons in the car.

The maunal is AWOL... hence my trouble. Would appreciate a note explaining any of the key steps. And yes, it's a Nokia.

That's exactly the same problem I had when I first tried to pair the N97. What phone are you using, Dan?

You can try clearing the memory by holding the green and red phone buttons for min. 2 seconds and then try pairing once again.

I gave up with the N97 and it was only after it had the software upgraded by Vodafone that it paired. To be honest, I rarely answer as I don't like driving even with handsfree. However, it's good to have everything working as it's meant to.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.
Sometimes on switching on the phone fails to connect. Briefly pressing the green button causes it to try again and more often than not it succeeds.

I'm using an LG Cookie with no problems.

It's a Nokia 2700, and I'm giving up! Tried about 30 times before then trying my wife's old Nokia reject - and that worked first time of course. Will rely on the Garmin instead for times that I may need it. Thanks for all the suggestions...

Normally the problem is the software on the Bluetooth unit in the car.
Every phone manufacturer introduces a new range of phones every 6 months(Samsung) or year(all the rest).

Newer phones have newer software, and is not always compatible.
And as the Pandas Bluetooth system does not have a Parrot chip inside upgrading is not that easy.(n)
The only one who can is the dealership. Or you, if you have the correct programs on your computer/labtop with Bluetooth(dongle).
Ask them to upgrade the Bluetooth unit. It will support newer phones although probably not every phone.

Bacause of changing phones that quickly, car manufacturers stay behind developing new software. Some car manufacturers are a year late(Land Rover). Or it requires a software downgrade on the phone. Which you don't want. Software upgrades are there to solve problems on the phone. So if you downgrade the software on the phone, you probably experience a couple of problems you didn't had before.

By the way. A N97 is still a big issue. The phone still doesn't work the way it should. I recentley have sent 15 N97's back to our supplier because of softwere problems. All with the same problem.

So if you have problems with pairing your phone, first contact your dealership... Ask them to upgrade the Bluetooth unit. And upgrade your phone to the latest software version.
So you will experience less problems with the phone itself.

Tell me about it!

However, once Vodafone had upgraded the software on my N97 [perhaps more completely than the end user can do?] it did pair with car.
