My 04 Panda Eleganza lights are playing up. The parking and bright lights seem to stay on but the normal driving lights continually switch on and off. A relay to the right of the foot well above the accelerator can be heard clicking on and off. FIAT want to charge an arm and a leg to replace the Body Control Unit (Body Computer). Is there someone out there who has had the same problem and managed to fix it on the cheap?

There was a light problem connected to the indicator stalk where when you indicated, the headlights switched themselves off. Is this the type of symptoms you are experiencing?

I got the indicator stalk replaced under the third year warranty...

No this happens when driving along a straight road at speed A5/A43/M1 and as I said you can hear a relay to the right of the footwell above the accelerator pedal inside the Body Control Unit (Body Computer) clicking on and off.

When it next happens try fiddling with the light stalk to see if it makes it better or worse.

Might help narrow down the fault.

Hi, after trying fiddling with the light stalk and having no joy I decided to remove the Body Control Unit, open it up and replace the faulty relay, only to find the relays are soldered in place. As my Wife needed to use the car I replaced it all back again and sods law the problem seems to have dissapeared. The original problem was probably a loose electrical connection or maybe the Body Control Unit has reset itself! Anyway the problem seems to have solved itself so thanks to all who helped.

I have just had the car in to the dealers with my wife's 05 Fiat Panda due to a recall by Fiat themselves (something about the ABS catching fire ), and 2 weeks later the headlights turn themselves on and off. As it is the wrong time of year for headlights to fail with the dark evenings, I wanted to ask if this could be a result of the work they had done as I am not exactly sure what the actually replaced??

I highly doubt it TBH. Switch and ABS units are different sides of the car (in RHD models) and different sides of the bulkhead
