Did a quick test yesterday with an old mattress that we need to get rid of, and I'm pleased to say it fitted in the car without causing too much of a visual obstruction! Made me chuckle anyway, I bet all these drivers of soulless estates would be jealous!:p

Our car has got the 60/40 rear seat split and the passenger table, so in order to get it in you do need to have the table folded down and the main part of the rear bench folded down. Ideally you need the whole rear seat down; I didn't bother with that yesterday as our little boy's car seat was in there.

When we do finally get round to chucking it I'll remember to take a picture for you all!

managed to get a double mattress in the back of my panda classic without deforming it too much, these little fiats are deceptive.

I manged to get a cooker into the back of mine, much to the initial amusement of my neighbours giving me the look of "that'll never fit in there!!". The look of amusement very quickly turned to surprise when it did go in, and with quite a bit of room to spare as well.

Very deceptive, and adding to the versitslity of the little car. I'm very quickly coming to the opinion that this is one of the best cars I have ever bought!

Just remembered I'd written this thread quite a while back but never got round to taking any more pics.

OK, so these pics aren't of a mattress, but they are of a stepladder instead!:p

We have a Homebase ladder which is just over 2.1m in length. Thought it would be nice for people to see what is actually possible as pretty much all of the demo cars I've seen at dealers don't even have split/fold seats, let alone the folding passenger table.

I took a pic of the ladder stood up against the car so that you can appreciate exactly how big it is in relation to the car.

BTW I appreciate you can probably wedge in a step ladder by playing around with the seat incline etc, but you won't be able to do it as easy as me, that's for sure(y)

FWIW there is still a good 15-20cm worth of space left if you really wanted to wedge something into the storage bin, or maybe put something on the diagonal.

Hope this helps my fellow FIAT Forumers!(y)

Haha! Yeah, I agree it does make the ladder look ridiculously big.

But I'm glad that's what you thought as that was one of the reasons why I decided to take the pics.

I know most people won't be carrying a ladder around with them regularly (unless they are window cleaners, gardeners or....err....burglars?!!:D), but it will provide comfort for some to know that they can pretty much put whatever they want in.

Put it this way, it's nice to know that I can and most others can't, lol!;)

I was thinking what if you could sleep in the panda just like then cape town to London record drivers did ,I think you would have to raise the back of the boot so you would be level ,of course its a lot easier if you have front passenger folding seat , but I think it still could be done without the front seat being lowered ,In my panda Mk3 I HAVE HAD VARIOUS LOADS INCLUDING 42 inch TV that I bought from Tesco , 2 pallets that were cut up , 8 blue boxes of wood chippings that's 6 in the back and 2 on the front passenger seat , it amazing what you can get into the back of the panda

I have to say that as well as the impressive amounts being fitted into the Panda's, something I love is the block of plastic on the underside of the bootlid with 'PANDA' printed on it! It reminds me of the big MULTIPLA badge that covered the radiator area when you look under the bonnet of the Multipla - it doesn't have to be there but it makes you smile because it is. Genius.

Bet the Up! doesn't have Up! written like that - after the clever trim levels (Take Up!, Move Up! and High Up!) VW could've really gone to town and done one inside the boot saying boot Up! if only they'd got the imagination of the Panda's designers :slayer:

Thanks for the pics Nigel! Good effort as well!(y)

Re sleeping in the Panda - well, first and foremost I'm not planning on doing it!:p But funnily enough I was chatting to the wife about this the other day - you could, for example, get a specially cut memory foam mattress (a little bit narrower than a single mattress perhaps, but this would be ideal as it can be rolled up), fold the front passenger seat down, put the cargo box in and have yourself a pretty decent sleep whilst laid out flat!(y)

JTD_Liam - I've never really paid all that much attention to the Panda badge under the bootlid, but I do agree with what you are saying. One thing you won't forget is the fact you are driving a Panda; not sure how many times it features throughout the car, but it is a lot!
