I actually promised you Panda fans this article back in the summer, but what with finishing college and then disappearing abroad for three months I kind of forgot all about it

Anyway, here it is - an article on a hot Panda from the days when Fast Car wasn't a Chav magazine.

Hope you find it interesting, and preferably one of you build something like this! I was speaking with PandaSport at the Ace last month and it looks like he's going to work on building a hot Panda. I can't think of anything more fun than an innocent looking Panda packing a punch under its bonnet

Enjoy the article!

Thats the car I first saw at the London Racing Car show in 1982/83. The engine then was from a 128/3p. It was also known as Pandamonium, so I got very confused when I found this site and Oldschools red racer:eek:

I did have the 13inch six spoke version of those 131 wheels on my Mk1(y)

Nice read, bit of a pocket rocket! If he had left the bodywork as standard then it could have been a true sleeper.

Have to say, i think the proportions are better on that one. Dont like the bodykit but the proportions are good IMO

what??
i thought phil thompson owned pandamonium, the red panda?
did oldskool own it before him?
anyone know of its whereabouts now?

Glad some of you enjoyed the article (y)

Just think, a modern day version could be done by fitting a 16v FIRE engine into a Panda. Should almost be a straight physical swap with a 999cc FIRE version, and the 16v was pushing out 85bhp as standard and is much lighter than the old ohc 1301cc Strada engine. A few 'tweaks' should soon get the power up to 100bhp.

That would be fun

Even the sohc 1242cc FIRE will push out close to 90bhp normaly aspirated with a few mods :chin:

Come on guys, makes some hot Pandas to terrorise the tarmac!

I love the Integrale style bodywork, particularly in black. Don't think it would work well in my Parade's lurid turquoise, however.

I think I'd have to go for a mid-engine conversion (think Clio V6, if you will), with a Fiat flavour. 2 litre 20vt from a coupe shoved in the rear passenger compartment would fit the bill...

Cheers,

Plug
