Hi all!
I am In need of a gearbox for my Panda 1993 1000 fire. It is a 5 speed.
Does anyone know if another fiat model shared this 5 speed box, or if they know of one available?
I know I am get it rebuilt for £250 but would like to spend less!
Thanks all!

Hi aaron, it will need to be a box from a similar age Panda, or possibly a very early Cinquecento. Any pre 93 Panda will have a rod operated box, they can be converted to the cable change but that will add to the job.

What is wrong with the current gearbox? A rebuild at £250 would not be a bad spend in my opinion, a used box can be a lottery as its quite possible it can have issues aswell.

Hi, thanks for the reply. My current box has a weak third synchro. If I am able to find a synchro I’ll have a go a rebuilding it myself.
Yes I thought that may be the case with the rods. Maybe worth me looking for a synchro..

Agree go for the rebuild. Do the linkage bushes too if you can do the rebuild your self it will be I
Less than £100. Any problems message me or Adam. For help or if we did the 4x4 fo £80; and now siluent and selection is wow.

Great ok thank you! Do you know where to source a 3rd gear syncro?

What are the current problems ???
A rebuild would be best in the long run especially if it only cost £250 Adam did the4x4 himself for <£100 now it is silent and selects perfectly
Selection can be improved by a bush kit £12
Otherwise keep loads of oil in it until it gives up

Third gear is weak and fourth is stiff to get into ( most likely due to linkage setup ) I would attempt to do it myself if I could source a synchro ring for third gear as all I can find at the moment is 1st and 2nd.
I think a bush kit is a worth while buy!

New bushes in my 88 certainly helped a bit, but isn't a post facelift mk2 (1993) a cable operated selector rather than linkage rod, hence not having selector rod bushes?

No mine is a 1993 and has linkage rods.

Bosch injection had the cat at the front on the manifold, ran for about a year from the '92 facelift until the Marelli system came in with the cat under the car, hence the change to the internal rod/cable linkage to make room.

Ahh I see, mine is a 1993 and has cable so just wanted to be sure ;)

I didn't know that, good to know! That would explain mine having cable and this one having rods :D

Good to know! I’ll buy a bush kit for mine I think !
