General Whats you MPG?

If it's not that, it either has to be using it, or loosing it.

Do you have a locking filler cap? That would stop theft.

Do you have a fuel leak? Any odd smells of petrol at times??

Is the carb/engine really set up correctly???

How difficult is it to push on a smooth flat surface?

My CLX rolls away on surfaces which look flat - there is extra drag with your rear axle drive chain (hence free-wheel hubs on the front of old Land Rovers), but your figures are low by the standards of other 4x4 Pandas.

Is there a "known good" 4x4 anywhere near you to compare with?

If it's none of that it's beyond me.

Well I havent changed a thing since my last post and I have run another 2 tank fulls of fuel through the car.

first was 31mpg and the last one was 34mpg.

Strange thing is that there has been no change in driving style either

Oh well lets see what this one does then.

This is an old one but a good one... There's lots of new people on here now (and some of these guys we don't hear from anymore :( )

So for all those people who haven't posted, what's you MPG?

Juppy - 38-45 Mpg

Asbo - 43-65 Mpg

Silvester - ermmm...

Jim

Princess = 40 if you rock on to about 60mpg if driven very gently

Humbug = About the same

Lulu = (slightly) more economical than either on runs due to bit better aerodynamics

My best so far is mid 50s, on Shell, driving like my right foot is made of string. In more aggressive weeks it must have been knocked down to low 20s, and cheaper supermarket petrol gives the worst returns.

BP is very pricey, but the one tank I did plump for the engine was gutsy, smooth, and it lasted for quite a while. :)

The tank does need filling when I next climb in so I'll drive very economically indeed and see how I do. :D

I really wish it would John, but it always seems to work out between 30-33mpg. It has a new dizzie and vacuum advance, the timeing has been done. Part of the reason could be the off road tyres I have on it. Other than that I'm stumped.
If you've got any ideas I'd be willing to try anything
Cheers
Ben

Here's a reply on the subject from a little while ago, it's fairly comprehensive.

Reduce all drag;
1) blow tyres to highest recommended pressure, or a bit more- but this will cause tires to wear in the middle more quickly, and reduce braking ability.
2) Check wheel bearing for wear and any drag.
3) Check for dragging brake shoes
Efficient engine:
1) clean air filter
2) new plugs and leads for a good burn in the cylinders
3) Lose weight (don't carry loads of stuff you don't need)-

Justin

The only additions I can think of regard fuel loss:
through leakage,
and that the carb is optimally set,
and choke goes home fully.

Alright Jim heres a run down of the critters. (Bit off topic this) Princess is my 135,000 mle green clx with a carburretor. A CL upgraded by a dealership ;). Humbug is my real CLX which is bright red only he started life as a selecta according to insurer and parts CD. And Lulu is a white Y10 Fila complete with servo brakes and electric windows and central locking. And best of all I found 3 new garges today to keep them in so me storage problem is solved. :) :) :) :) :D :D :D :D

A few hundred on the road maybe if that. A lot of the surviving ones are turbos. Its still great fun to drive as a 999cc. Il use your Gin intake to cover a multitude sins :)

Filled the tank today, but I had to tackle a very large hill on the way home. Full throttle at 70 at the bottom (it's on a dual carriageway) drop down to 4th about half way, got over the top doing 50, although the roof was down which didn't help at all.

See how things go though. :)
