Jon, exactly how many cars do you have in the family now at your house? (including parts cars?) ;)

Jim

Mum's Yaris was out yesterday and it was just Panda's on the drive, we were working on 2 and it was impressive seeing all 6 (5 runners and the 1 donor) on it. I would take a pic, but the way our drive is set you can't get them all in one pic.

I'll do a google earth and post a pic in a bit.

The Donor 750L should be gone but the scrappy company made a cock up :(, and dad's 1000CL is going once I transfer the NI plate to my 4x4 :p

True answer is that it must be a medical condition  Panda Bug (y)

In our drive

1 x 750L (splutter, needs MOT)
1 x 1000cl (parts car but it's pretty stripped)
1 x 1000s (sylvia)
1 x selecta (gutted shell thou)
1 x Fiat Barchetta (Alan's 'Mid life crisis' wagon)
1 x Fiat Strada (more rust than car)
1 x Fiat Cinqucento
1 x Fiat 500 (but not in the drive, it's in Tennessee at the minute)
1 x Citroen XM

Mmm.... Yeah, I think it's just I've not grown up and my toy box jus got bigger, LOL

Jim

Here is a small pic of our gaff Jim.

Panda overview.jpg

You can see some of the Panda's but these were taken ages ago!

Top pic shows 2 Blues

and Bottom shows the 750L donor where it is currently sitting and someone's van in our drive (worryingly I don't know who's van it is )

Jon.

Right, got timing belt done this morning for £65 which wasn't bad :)

My mechanic gave it a look over for the MOT and it dosen't look good :(

  • Sills need welding - knew this anyway so not to bothered about that
  • Play in bother front wheels - He's gonna check to see if this is normal because it's a 4x4
  • Drivers front shock needs replacing :bang:
  • Possibly a small bit of flex brake pipe at the back going onto the rear axle
Not MOT failures but thing's that might need doing;

  • Rear diff has a slight leak. Only realy slight and you can see where the oil's been plattered over the exhaust and fuel tank; DSC07467.JPG Ive been advised to leave this for now, and just keep an eye on it and top up as of when.
  • The rear passenger side wheelarch liner looks a bit sorry for it's self so I'm going to be patching it up until I get another;
DSC07465.JPG
  • 2 out of the 4 gear box gaiters will need replacing.
Other than this, he said it seems to be a fair sound and solid little car and we even got the grease gun out and done all the gears nipples on the rear propshaft :)

Re: The write-up

''The gearbox feel sturdy, but grides into 3rd sometimes. This is they syncro I was told  Is this the start of gearbox problems which the 4x4's suffer with. As far as that goes is it going to become a bigger problem, or something that's ok if I don't mind living with it?''

thats how mine started. noise in 3rd. kind of a crunch. it got noisier and ended up totally f**ked. still waiting to fit scrapyard one (250 euros) as i'm still waiting for clutch to arrive. hope it works. it may be a good idea to drain the oil and check for metal in the oil. i didn't know there was a common problem with 4x4 gerboxes. suppose it could be due to people driving in 4x4 too often on tarmac? good luck with it.

I've been offered a ride for the xmas run, want me to find out if you can grab a seat Jon ?

Trev (your Panda has no chance on their run as your wheels are just too small)

I reckon a Panda could make a lot of that with some MT tires. Their track is so narrow only one wheel is in a rut the other is on the centre so you don't really ground out. Just means you drive at an angle all the time.

TBH I was wondering/thinking this myself. lol.

Just can't wait to go off road for the first time. Not long now. About 2 weeks now hopefully :D

Do they do MTs for Pandas ?

Not being rude or joking the Panda has small wheels, when I checked the best I could come up with is snow tyres.

I reckon a Panda with KH71s or BFGs would be a very sure footed beast :D

Ahh, that clears that up. Wonder why they decided to put their name to an off-roader :chin:
bit of a fad in the late eighties, hence the lancia Y10 Fila and the panda sergio tacchinis I've had and I seem to remember a metro Principles aswell. they'd just stick a designer name on to attract the wannabe yuppies who couldn't afford a golf gti or a porsche. Made for some above average special editions though....not sure about the metro.
