This is the Seicento...

YouTube - Crash Test - Fiat Seicento

Use your imagination

But I think it does make me a better driver knowing that I'd not survive an accident so it's better to be more attentive and try and not have a smash in the first place rather than relying on 27 airbags to bail you out.... ;)

Jim

Lol. But that Seicento is designed to crumple and have safety features such as ONE airbag, and crumple zones. Thats whats worrying.

The Panda has No crumple zones. So when your having a stupid moment like me, you hit the back of a transit at 30MPH, car dosen't crumple, just cracks bumper and your neck takes full brunt of the impact, and you can drive away(y). In a Seicento though:rolleyes:, crumples, airbag goes off, and the steering wheel still wacks you in the head, hehe.

The Panda is probably safer than the Seic in a 30MPH crash because it dosen't crumple, its just speeds above that, when it just caves in and the rear wheels overtake the front.:(

Uno's are no better:

Big dose of luck always helps. the one time I had a proper accident I managed to flip the car in the air and roll it three times. Now if you're going to do that I can thoroughly recommend the old shape Rover 200, I walked (well climbed) out without a mark. Also managed to do it in the one car I did actually insure fully comp. So after my brush with danger what did I do? Rushed out and bought my first Panda with the insurance payout and promptly insured it 3pft. Go figure:confused:

I hope the fact that I'm fully comp dosen't mean I'll do the same. You got any pics of the aftermath?:p

my panda is unisured atm but 5 years ago it was £1005.90 when i was a spritly lad of 18. not bad for tpft this close to london

didnt the old pandas come very low in the crash tests? i wouldnt like to crash in one :( i once had a head on crash with a motorbike i was in a cortina at the time the police estimated my speed at 28mph and his at 70+ mph the bike was a 125cc it hit me so hard it pushed the engine sideways and pushed the roof up, the drivers door was pushed back to the pillar and wouldnt open, the bonnet was bushed up into a V shape and was higher than the roof. i hit the windscreen but luckily walked away. i dont think i would have been so lucky if i was in a panda. the bike rider died.

forgot to say it wasnt my fault it was a 30 limit and he was speeding and on the wrong side of the road

I would like to know if they've been crash tested, I know euroncap haven't done them because they're to old.

The thing about Panda's and cars of a similar age is that they're not designed to crash like newer cars. Panda's in low speed collisions will maintain they're shape and not deform, but when the impact is about 30MPH+ they'll just disintergrate, due to the way they're made.

Newer cars on the other hand are designed to crumple and anything over 5-7MPH will see them start to deform.

This is why when I had a silly moment and skidded into the back of a transit at 20-25MPH I'm glad I was in the Panda (rather than a new car) because the Panda took the impact and didn't deform (appart from the bumper and bumper mount). Whereas if I was in a newer car, say a mk3 Panda) the car would have probably started to crumple, as it's designed to, and would have needed a new front bumper and rad (front bits) and probably wouldn't be driveable from the scene.

The way I look at the Panda's safety when all my friends moan and say things like 'it hasn't got airbags like thingys Corsa' is I say' if you hit a tree at 50MPH in a Corsa, yes the airbags will stop you from dying from the initial impact, you'll just die of blood loss as they cut you out, atleast with the Panda it will be fast and almost instant  (if you see what I'm saying)

Jon.

I wouldn't be particularly happy to have a wreck in the panda but minor bumps the Panda as we know takes them very well. If you constantly have to think about "well what if I'm in a crash, what if...., what if...." you wouldn't do anything. The new panda is only 3 star so doubt the classic would even score 1
