Just a quick question to the older panda guys.

Are the pilars of the 4x2 diferent from the 4x4's?

There must be some diference in strength, I suppose, but except that?

Thanks

They are two different part numbers and two different prices, so presumably there must be some difference?

Anyone please?

Rgds.

The holes for bolting to the shocks are at different angles to counter the different cambers due to the extra ride hieght/ wheel size.

Can anyone please advise as to what is the difference in wheel size as mentioned?
Thank you.

Again, the suspension struts ( shock absorbers ) are different part numbers and different prices between the 4x4 and the 4x2, so again we must presume that there is a difference.

Just to clarify we are talking....

Anytime I have looked at front end components the 4x4 pillar has never been available from motor factors but the 4x2 has and always shows in brackets (Not 4x4) Only part available for 4x4 is the ball joint so I would say yes they are different. Esp as Pete points out thay have different part no's and prices as well from Fiat.

Hello Alan and thank you for the illustration.

So, as per Pandaki's original question at the start of the thread, can anyone give definitive answers as to the differences between the two " Pillars " as well as the one already mentioned by Panda Sport?

Thank you.

Think you would need to find a serious fiat technician to answer that one :(

Hello again Alan.
Thanks for the confirmation on the wheel sizes.

Much appreciated.

Here's some details from the workshop manual as to why the holes are in a different place. 4x4 details in brackets.

camber 1 degree (2 degrees 20 mins)
caster 2 degrees 30 mins (3 degrees 30 mins)

springs
rate 208 daN (241 daN)
length 213mm (231mm)

The shocks are also different lengths 428mm (438mm) but with the same travel (within 0.5mm:rolleyes:)

I guess the difference in price is just down to economy of scale:( with so many more 4x2s produced.

So, different angles is the answer to my question, according to what is posted here.

Thanks guys.(y)

I think I've got to get these 4x4 ones then.

But what happens to the geometry if the front of the car is raised? (as mine is a bit higher than normal, made by the previous owner)

I am halfway through replacing the struts (pillars?) on my Sisley. Why stop halfway? The bolts that hold the struts to the hub carriers are M12 (19mm spanner) on the old OE parts, but M10 (17mm spanner) on the replacement Boge struts and hub carriers. When buying my bolts in preparation (learnt from my mistakes, see?), I measured off the car.

Worth a check before you dismantle your means of getting to the local bolt-shop :bang:

(Incidently, if anyone wants a list of the new nuts and bolts you'll need to do the job I know em all by heart)

You will find that the 4x4 pillar has 12m/m holes for the bolts. If your replacements have 10m/m holes they are for the 4x2 not the 4x4.
Rgds.

Damn. I was very specific on the phone and when they matched the hub carriers I'd got with the car I assumed Fiat must have tweaked it.

Do you know what difference it will make to have put 4x2 components on?

Thanks for letting me know.

Ralph
