Okay, So a little new to this forum, Gettin used to it lol
I'm DEFINATELY getting a panda, And keeping it mostly standard for half a year, And I'm gunna replace basic parts (Spark plugs, Cam belt, Radiator pipes, The like...) But after that, I wanna make a super panda, Cause everyone's knocking what a great little car it is... and I wanna be able to squeeze a fair bit of power out of this car =P First thing, Bolt on air filter (an extr 2-3Bhp) But after that, What other parts could I get to increase the performance? My friend says to drop a 1.4L engine in there after a year or two's no claims, Would that FIT in a panda? I know theres a LOT of room in the bay, But still... I want to keep a panda for about 5 years (Family thing) before moving on, But I'd like to keep it longer if I could.
Also, How feasible is an LPG conversion on these?
 
What you are proposing is all good stuff but….

Make it handle first. – Sort the suspension if you can take can safely carry speed into a bend it will be quicker than the shopping trolley car behind you that can’t and you will be out and away before it. Opening that nice gap.

Make it stop – If you can confidently and safely brake later and do the above you are even further ahead of the guy behind you.

Don’t get sucked into the "add up the performance gains scoring" trap. It doesn’t work quite like that. Once you have covered the basic handling and you move onto the engine you are right to look at your fuelling, air supply and exhaust. But to get the main benefit from any modifications here you are going to need to start messing with different cam angles. The suggestion of an engine swap is a good one as there is a limit to how much power you are going to be able to wring out of the poor little engine. It is do’able I’m sure but it is all going to depend on what you are trying to achieve. If you are looking for a Q car effect then look at what Panda Sport on this forum has done and is up to. If you want to keep to the original configuration then you need to look more at the internals of the existing engine.

The old maxim still holds true though, Power costs money. You don’t get anywhere without a fair bit of cash and time. It is also a hard broken addiction. (I know, I’m still in recovery :cry:)

A simple LPG kit would be an easy fit on the car, but the payback time may be years, dependingon your mileage.

Doing the maths based on petrol at current prices of £1.03 per Litre (£4.82 per gallon) (what I paid tonight)

Lets say you drive 10k per year (about 27 miles a day every day)

I'm guessing what the ar will do MPG wise but lets use an average of 36 MPG

So in a year you will use 278 Gallons or about 1250 Litres at a cost of £1,337

On LPG (price today is about 55p per Litre) The same 10k will cost you £687

Aparent cost saveing is then £1,337 - £687 = £650

BUT, you have to factor in the kit cost and installation, say about £900 so you won't start to break even untill nearly two years later. And that is only if duty isn't increased on LPG as may well happen. The powers that be understand that LPG is still a fossil fuel and the green mob want duty raised on it and it may well happen soon.

Also if the Panda is more efficent and gives you a higher MPG return (say around 42mpg or more) then the figures start to slide against LPG big time.

Yep I am biased. LPG isn't all its cracked up to be and the payback is crap unless you are doing big miles. Also if you are looking for power gain mods then LPG isn't going to work out for you as there is always a slight drop in performance (not a lot, but its there) with LPG. And if you are going to turn it on and off to get the power mods when you want them, then one of the fueling configurations will not like the other and in one of the modes the car may well just run odd or rough.

Co-driver has it spot on.(y) On any project your first hit should always be tyres, brakes and suspension.

The big thing to look out for on the Panda is wieght. Any increase in this has a marked effect on the performance so keep any extras to a minimium. My feeling is the wieght of a LPG tank (that would also fill all of the boot) would ruin your perfomance and mpg. A conversion to ethonal85 maybe :chin:.

The costs of getting the Panda engine up to 55bhp is probably 2 to 3 times the amount an 1108 Punto 55 engine would cost to buy and fit.
