MK6 VW Golf 1.4

what a hateful "car" this is, had one delivered yesterday for work, and i took it straight out on a job, and it pissed me off straight from the start...

what idiot decided that you HAVE to dip the clutch before turning the key? are you saying that because a few ****wits are too dumb to check they are in neutral, i have to faff? then, why on earth is the accelerator floor mounted? i have size 12 feet, it doesn't work comfortable for me!!

speaking of comfort, no i could not get a decent combo of seat, wheel and mirrors for my 6-3 frame, nothing gels, like there was no cohesive design process.

as a driver, the wheel is where my hands are going to be a huge amount of the time, so why make it too thin, and of some horrible scratchy, knobbly plastic that grates on your palms?

i haven't even moved off yet........

the engine, drive by wire, right? gutless!! i got more go farting on a paper plane, and even when you put your foot down, unless herr VW deems it appropriate, the engine won't rev........in any bloody gear! junctions and joining motorways are tricky work, and as for slowing down....hello brakes are you...HOLY **** CROW BAR MY FACE OF THE SCREEN!!!!!!!! nothing, nothing nothing....TOTAL ****ING STOP. genius....well done......

still at least the air con is good, it should be the amount of noise it makes drowning out the weedy stereo.

all in all, what a horrible example of modern car engineering, too big, too slow, too heavy, cheaply made, expensively sold, if it had a fiat badge on it, they'd be slated, but since it comes from wolfsburg, the press are queuing up to polish this turd.

The Croma's brakes are rather sharp... I forget every now and then that it is actually an anchor rather than ventilated discs. It also has the clutch/brake to start but that's a modern Alfa thing.

Oh dear You didn't much like it then? Asbo also has the clutch-in start thing. Floor-mounted accelerators can work.....when the pedals are well spaced and positioned (think big-built german geezers in BMs). Hope you don't have to be seen out in it too often.......and if I were you I'd invest in a paper bag

I've always done it. Dipping the clutch isn't just about making sure the car doesn't jerk forward if left in gear...

A 1.4 NA in a Golf is ridiculous. Im sure a TDI would drive a whole lot better.

Re: MK6 VW Golf 1.4

ive driven most in the golf range, and i can safely tell you that they have given you a piece of sh!t Jai.

the tdi units and the tsi and tfsi units are good, but the rest are dodgy.

the accelerator into the floor works well for me, but does take some getting used to.

Plastic steering wheel is standard unless you get GT or GTi model unfortunately, which is stupid considering the amount these cars cost new.

They handle well though, and the brakes are only sharp at very low speeds

Re: MK6 VW Golf 1.4

we had the GT model at work used it a couple of times and it did seem quite a good car to drive as tris said the steering wheel is leather in them and the stereo is alot better. but the diesel engine in it just didnt seem to have any sort of power when setting of. until the turbo kicked in

not this one it is pants when setting off it almost stalls everytime you set off normal, so you think i'll give it a bit more and then it dies because of traction control stopping wheel spin there is no inbetween

Exactly the same things I complain about the new shape Audi A3 (allbeit the one I use is a 1.9 TDI), 25k piece of German overengineered Junk.

(Have to do the same thing to start it!). Thought it was f***ed at first until I actually read the dash readout haha.

I find the VAG diesels very tractor like compared to the Fiat units. Their v6 3.0 is nice though, but then again if Fiat made a multijet 6 pot vee I'd bet it would be awesome - the 2.4 straight 5 is silky smooth.

I hate this "remove all driver envolvment" path that modern cars are taking.

No doubt we'll reach the point where the car drives you and you sit there as "backup"

i think the 140bhp 1.0 tdi is a lot smoother than the 1.9 150 (although ive only tried it in the astra and saab), as it doesnt just all of a sudden find the turbo and give you a kick back in the seat- its a lot more flexible, if slightly slower.

the 1.9 tdi is no way as refined as the 2.0 unit i have to say though.

This isnt slating the Fiat 1.9 unit by the way, as im currently driving an Astra with it fitted and im looking at GP's with the 8v unit in and i love them both!

Re: MK6 VW Golf 1.4

VAG diesels are probably the worst of the modern bunch of diesels...you get a slow one its slow...you get a fast one its peaky with all its power in a big wedge and nothing either side (although in all fairness 98% of diesels suffer this to a degree) and all of them rattle like artics...

As for the 1.4 Golf expecting a bog standard VW to be good is like expecting a flight with Ryan Air to be the same as one with Virgin Atlantic
