Morning all, buon giorno, salut, guten tag, Ola, bonjour, bom dia....

One of the rabbits is a weasel... By which I mean my current Fiat is a Suzuki (Sedici).

All Fiat in the 1.9 TDi department of course, which is the main reason I'm here. Big fan of diesels anyway, despite current overhyped emissions panic, and a big fan of fiat diesels in particular.

Previous genetically related cars have included Alfa 156 Sportwagon (same Engine), Alfasud, Alfa 33, and a pair of Lancias, with the fabulous Lampredi 1600 and 2000 cc engine. Hanker after a 124 but currently need the 4wd.

Looking forward to you all helping me to keep things working nicely. No idea what help I might be to anyone here but you don't know until you try!

En avant!

Welcome Massimo - I like "One of the rabbits is a weasel".

My daughter's first "good car" - after a couple of very old Pandas (I learned a lot about Fiats working on them) - was a Swift. She bought it new, got a super deal, from a dealer up here in Edinburgh but she'd already moved down south so Dad (me) had to deliver it down to Wiltshire for her. I remember it as a very pleasant wee car to drive and I had a few days of nice holiday before returning north.

I quite like the looks of the Sedici/SX4 and of the two I think the Suzi looks nicer. Not enough room inside it to justify buying one for me.

Kind regards
Jock

Thanks for the welcome Auld Jock.

Yes, Suzukis are underrated I think, but I'm very happy with the Sedici. Second hand the Fiat is noticeably cheaper too, for much the same spec., age etc.

I also run a 2009 Grand Vitara, which uses a Renault 1.9 diesel and which has the transfer box allowing us to crawl up our hideously badly maintained rural 'road'. The Sedici generally does it fine too, but after a storm some of the staircases reappear and the lack of low ratios means either attacking the slope a touch faster than ideal, or setting fire to the clutch. (the same road has broken a leaf spring in a mazda B2500, ripped the towing bracket off a Shogun and seen our friendly man with his Kubota digger flailing around on its back with a broken track. Less surprisingly, it has also comprehensively done for front triangle and coil spring on a Berlingo. I really must find out who to bribe at the local town hall...

I'm circling dpf issues on both cars at the moment, and I'm short of space to work on them, so will be trying all the various 'tricks' first, hopefully to buy some limp-free time.

Cheers,

Massimo

Thanks for the welcome varesecrazy, and the tip re. where to post.

I'm still in diagnostic phase with a dpf issue, hampered a bit by unreliable comms. between my 'ebay special' obd reader and the fiat ecu. I've got them to talk, more or less, but 'live data' isn't, it's a snapshot.

Ho hum..

I really can't recommend Multiecuscan to you strongly enough if you intend to do your own maintenance. I've just flashed up my copy and it shows that it "speaks" to the Suzuki SX4 1.9 and 2.0 DDiS. seems to give quite a good coverage of modules and actuations like DPF regen etc (look under adjustments).

You can download a free version from the their website and run it in simulate mode to see what it can do. I will even give limited functionality from the free program if you buy an interface. I'd also recommend giving Gendan a ring - I bought from them and their after sales support has been superb - Beware "cheapie" interfaces, there's many people on here who have reported problems with them.

regards
Jock
