My 2013 4x4, sold earlier this year at 63,000 miles, showed no sign of damage in that area (odd small stone 'dink' maybe, and a lot of dead flies.. but nothing more). Daily 50 mile round trip, much on motorway. Weekends, lots of country lanes and byways. So seems pretty robust really

My 2013 4x4 TA has done almost 68,000 miles, including 11 trips to and from central Italy, where we go up and down a severe white road a couple of hundred times a year, with no issues.
My old Alfa 155 was a bit of a motorway cruiser and the radiatore was constantly being shot through.
I took the front bumper off and attached aluminium mesh behind the intake slots, held in with cable ties. It worked really well with no negative effects on cooling.
