Hi,
I'm new to this forum and am looking for some advice. My 2003 Stilo Turbo Diesel Estate (1.9) has developed running problems - it has all the usual electrical faults which make it a novel driving experience but I kinda like that. What's concerning me is the mechanic thinks the latest fault is due to the Turbo Unit Fuel pipe & sensor, it turns over fine, idles noisily but fine but when you put your foot down it doesn't respond and cuts out - it's also chucking out quite a bit of black smoke. Any ideas on likely costs (parts I mean not labour)????
Thanks

Hi, Welcome to the FF.

The turbo doesn't have a fuel pipe, only air inlet and oil feed and drain pipes.

Which sensor is your mechanic referring to?
Presume he's done the diagnostics, what fault code(s) were showing?
.

Hello n welcome

I suspect you may well have a stuck or choked up EGR valve which can give symptoms you have given ..black smoke lack of power..though fault codes as above are very handy to have to give a wider opinion

two options you can either blank off the EGR valve or get your paws very mucky giving it a clean out and see if it free's up, they are known to gunk up over time and a search on the blanking option will give much info ..a few quid for a blanking plate easily available on certain auction sites some have even made their own from a thin suitable piece of metal.. or for a can of carb/brake cleaner you could spend a few hours cleaning it out as in link below..get some of them cheap work gloves if you go for cleaning it the black soot from it gets well stuck into your hands.
