Hiya

Another newbie seeking words of wisdom!

I've got an x reg punto, genuine 93K mileage and cracking little runner

Had an oil leak recently which I took in to get checked and was advised that I needed a new fan belt and a crank shaft oil seal. Ive just been called by them and they've advised that due to the oil leak, I also need a new timing belt at another £150 + labour - does this sound genuine?

Thanks and hello! :D

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If oil has got onto the timing belt then you definitely need to get it changed. However, not certain about the cost. Are you saying that they are charging £150 PLUS Labour for replacing the timing belt. This sounds excessive because in the labour to fit the new crank oil seal they will already have included removing the timing belt in part so should not be charging for that again.

Plus, £150 just for the belt is way too much, check prices at a local factors to give you an idea of the real cost of the part.

Yes that sounds rite for fitting of the belt my bro is a mot tester and dose things like that for like £60 - 160 depends on the car he did mine for £60 the belt cost £30 on its own
