Hi just joined the Fiat Forum. I have just purchased a punto 1.2elx 16v speedgear 2001.

The problem is a scraping noise when i drive although it dissappears in higher gears.

is there a way of topping up the gearbox oil or is it a sealed unit?

ive rang a few gearbox garages and have been quoted from £400 to £800 to fix!!!!!!

please help

Hi mate,

My black sporting speedgear had the same problem when I got it. I changed the gearbox oil and filter and all was good. The only downside is that the gear oil and filter are only available from fiat (or they were when i got them a couple of months back) and cost me £70 in total. I was told that you dont need the specific Fiat oil for the gearbox, however, this is debatable. It'd probably be worth asking your local Fiat dealer about this.

Hope this helps,

Dave

You may find this link useful as it shows the complete cvt (ecvt) gearbox parts. http://www.automaticchoice.com/Catalogue/re0f05a.pdf The gearbox is a JATCO RE0F05A and uses a metal powdwer clutch. This is aplicable to Punto 1995 - 2000 and Panda 1989 - 199? (late).
If you put RE0F05A in Google you will find many sellers of parts for these gearbox parts. If you have a late 2003 -Panda or Mk2 Punto (2001-) then you HAVE A RE0F21A gearbox and you may find this link helpful. http://www.automaticchoice.com/Catalogue/re0f21a.pdf
I try to use facts not clever remarks or subjective comments as these can cause costly damage. I hope you and others find this useful. Regards ~ SKYDOME
