I just picked up a '68 Fiat 850 Spider for a project. The car has major rust in the unibody structure, but a decent looking body. I had the engine running a couple of days after towing the car home. The little 903 cc engine sounds great, doesn't smoke.

Not sure if this'll go over well, but the car is in the process of being stripped to build a single seater using the engine, transaxle, and suspension. A few reasons I picked this car were low initial cost, good suspension for my project, and the fact that it didn't look like a good candidate for restoration, although some parts might help someone else out.

I'll kick back and lurk awhile to get the feel of the place before posting too much. If someone has questions about my project, ask away and I'll open up.

Howdy! (y)
I guess your concern was people thinking you are going to destroy a classic?

Don't worry too much, people hear realise that not every old car can be restored.
Atleast you will give this one a second chance at life even if it isn't as Fiat intended.
Good luck with your project, I'm sure alot of us will be interested to see how it turns out. (y)

Yeah, when you see pics of the car, it looks decent. The problem is when you start looking underneath and see just how bad it really is. Most of the body is good and if someone needs parts soon enough, they can pick up most of it very cheap.

I'm calling this my "Fiat Fiasco" and may see about getting emblems made to put on the car when it's done.

Here's a few pics of it the way it came home and how it looks now. Did you know a newbie can pretty well strip one to nothing in about 8 hours?
