Hi, our multipla is the facelift one 2005 done 202000kms. It smokes a bit when cold probably cos of the auto richener. Maybe but jtd engines are not known for high miles so we were thinking of a replacement.
Is a 192 engine compatable with a 186?
Is the 192 chain distribution?
Has anyone done an engine swop? Are there probs with the computer module?
Thanks Barry

Our multipla was due for its 2 year test this November so I did what I always do, that is change everything including an additif.
Elf 700 oil and Bardahl stop fume.
The engine passed its emmision limits well, and its stopped smoking now.
The old oil was good though, still sticky between fingers.
Its seems emmision is very critical on these JTD engines.

The jtd engine does run to very high miles/kilometres . Just make sure you change engine oil and oil filter regularly ie at least once per year or every 10,000 miles whichever comes sooner.
Don't rely on how the oil "feels between fingers".

I have been feeling it between my fingers for over 50 years, I think I know what i am feeling.
I wouldnt put secondhand oil back into a JTD engine, but I would put it into my old diesel UNO which has done 485,000 kms.
I expect my JTD engine to packup after 300,000kms, these type of engines do not wear well, thus the need for good quality oil and regular changes.
Another thing is that I dont agree with test stations screaming the engines off load, I had a bigend fail 3 weeks after on one of my Fiats.
