Hi all,

I am trying to eliminate a vibrating plastic buzzing sound on my JTD somewhere under the bottom dash board when changing through the gears, mostly in third gear, it happens only for a few seconds at certain revs. I know it is nothing serious but I hate niggling noises when driving. Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone help with a suggestion?

Hi all,

This is a bit anoying still. (n) I can't seem to eliminate this plastic vibration buzzing sound I am getting when going through 1st 2nd & 3rd gear. Surely my multi is not the only one that does this. Somewhere in or under the dash. I am thinking of packing some rags or foam behind the dash.

Have you had the mod done to the gear linkage cables? I believe it is some form of clip and weights that tie it all together.
To test, rest your handle firmly on the gear stick as you drive. If it shuts up then this just might be your problem. At some time they all do it!

Thanks Moriarty the mundane for that,

It is coming from the gear cable. When I move the gear lever a bit it stops. The sound travels through this to the plastic parts of the under dash. I'm not so bothered now as I know it is something trivial, but is this common on Multis? My Multi has only done 15,000 Miles. I will check them clips you mentioned though.

This mod involves adding 2x weights to the outer of the gear shift cables under the car and in specific locations, but should cure the noise. (y)
