Bought 2 new ones and went to fit them but not quite sure if they are on right..they seem to be extendeding but the spring clip arrangement is the strangest thing I've ever seen...
Not sure what to do with the front spring clip...as its doesn't seem to do anything ..anyone got any pics of how it should be?

Yes, they are strange little things aren't they? It took me a while to figure out how they work....

The end with the spring towards front of car on both sides IIRC.
They are overly complex, fragile and expensive.

What happens to the long bit of metal with the notch in it? It doesn't seem to do anything?!

When the unit compresses and relaxes it auto adjusts( the spring bows out and when it returns to shape it ratchets the threaded section)

That will be great if possible...it will no doubt help others...as mentioned before..I reckon these on a lot of peoples multi have fallen apart and not working leading to spongy feeling brakes..now they feel firm under foot!

Ok... Done on phone so not going to be the best but should make sense.
Keep an eye on the exposed threaded section becoming more and more visible as the unit expands.

The long bit of metal stops the collar that the spring is mounted to from Rotating... It's a stabiliser bar essentially.

The collar needs to remain stationary to prevent the spring from being twisted yet allowing the unit to rotate inside it.

Whoever designed that mechanism could not be accused of having insufficient testicular diameter.

However, if someone would sell just that spring steel ratchet clip (that's the Achilles heel), I'm sure we'd all be eternally grateful......
