Hi all
My red airbag light came on intermittently in the week, so I did the old "waggle the orange connectors" trick which worked for a bit. However then it came on permanently so I dismantled the connectors, cleaned with WD40, and reassembled- still on. In desperation today I soldered the wires to each other (something I think I might regret!) and gues what? Light is STILL on.
Is there anything else I can try? Or will my car need to get intimate with a code reader?!?
Please help!

I think I remember a thread on here about another airbag connector under/in the dashboard on the passenger side giving similar problems - it might have been behind the passenger airbag. Might be worth a search?

Thanks! Will have a look behind dashboard for anything loose-ish!

Anyone else found this connector?

May be this (my original quote);
"My airbag light was on for nearly two years. Had to fix it for MOT. Turned out to be a poor connection under the passenger dashboard airbag cover. Prise up the cover with a screwdriver (it's just a cover, not directly connected to any airbag/explosive) and the connectors are near the front. I didn't have to disconnect anything, just a wiggle about fixed it."
Good luck!

Thanks! That's another thing to try. Reading some of the past posts on this naughty little light, it seems it just stays on sometimes if the error keeps occuring. Can EcuScan + cable switch it off, or is it a main dealer? I don't want to take it to main dealer because a) it'll cost a fortune, and b) they'll probably look under the seats and see a soldered connection rather than the plugs which they probably won't like!

Will go out and try connector now!

Andrew

Soldered connection...I would walk away from the car, sorry. However yes I would remove the top pocket lid in passengers side dash and associated screws and lift top dash section off and gain access to the hidden connector. Dont use wd40 but simply undo and refit and rebuild. (disconnect battery first of course)

p.s. dont forget connector (if applicable) under passengers seat.

Just been out and had a waggle- no joy! It was me who soldered the connections though, T14086, so I know they're soldered properly!

Like I said, can a normal EcuScan kit clear an error or does it need a dealer?

No, I haven't- will get it if it would help though! Especially if it will clear an error!

I used Fiatscan (now Multiecuscan) to identify where the airbag error was (under passenger airbag cover). I also used it to clear all the errors first but the airbag error kept coming back until I physically moved the airbag wires and the connection was remade at which point the airbag light and error cleared themselves. So Multiecuscan does have the facility to clear airbag errors but might not be necessary if you can find and fix the actual problem.

Re: Red airbag light FIXED!!

Excellent! Took it round to Urchin (Richard)'s, connected up reader thing, cleared and not come back!

Thanks very much Richard! Hope it stays out now!

Job Done!

Driven it again, the light has gone on and off a few times. The only error on Richard's code reader was "side curtain air bag" or something- I'm assuming these are ones in door pillars? As it's intermittent I bet it's a loose connector- does anyone know where they are? Might try popping the door pillar trim off and following wiring- did somebody mention something in the boot? Hopefully that will put light out for good?
Thanks!
Andrew

I thought that one was going to be a problem, let me know when you have cleaned the plug and ill clear the codes again mate.

Just been out to it- the curtain airbag is in the headlining the full length above the doors. Guessing it's at the back- haven't had a good look yet. Might have a look on elearn CD? Found an orange connector in the light cluster and tightened it but bet that's the lights!

not sure mine is too old for such things as side air bags:D
