On the ever important quest for better fuel economy I am trying everything on the forum from EGR cleans to Millers Additives etc etc.
The car 115JTD Eleganza 54 plate has never impressed on mpg compared to our previous 105JTD SX X plate which never achieved less than 40 mpg.
I don't believe the Eleganza has ever achieved 40mpg - usually displays 29 - 33 and gets 33 to 38 in real money.
Anyway getting a bit serious about things i have pumped the tyres to 35psi all round, added some millers to the tank, replaced the rear radius arm bearings(was leaning in on NS and the car was wandering on the road). Filters are about due so thats next.
Has anybody fitted K&N's panel filter to their JTD and has it improved economy(not interested in sound or extra performance as i am driving like miss daisy these days for the mpg)? Filters cost about £40 and last the lifetime of the car

Yeah, makes about 1 to 1.5 mpg. it did on my read out and with measuring. I have also recently changed my coolant to vw pink g12 50/50 mix and this also improved mpg. no idea why?? The filter is worth it's money in my opinion.
When I had my cam belt changed I also got an mpg increase...
I have a 55 plate jtd 115 84k.

The K & N filter is a worthwhile buy, if for no other reason to save money on buying disposable filters. I also bought the kit to clean and re-oil it. I cannot say that I have noticed an improvement in m.p.g. but I have noticed an improvement in bottom-end torque. K & N claim a possible increase of 5 b.h.p. My motor is an Eleganza JTD and I once achieved 56m.p.g. on a non-stop jouney from Grasmere to Air. Incidentally, I like to drive at at least 70m.p.h. on motorways as I believe that motoring should be enjoyed. I use REDEX diesel treatement at every fill and have used SELENIA Digitech 0W30 since it was introduced. I bought my Multipla new(it's my third new Multipla)and would be happy to drive it for the rest of my days.

That's awful mileage.
My '02 115 used to show an almost constant 35-36mpg, then I totally changed my driving style, and it now shows a minimum of 45-ish, rising (dropping?) to 52+ on longer motorway runs (60+ if slipstreaming a coach (y)).
Best thing is it doesn't really take me any longer to get anywhere.

I find the 'Range' function gives a better indication of economy, as the 'MPG' function only shows the average since the last reset, whereas the range shows what distance you'll achieve at the current mpg.
