Sorry folks have looked through forum, pls dont give me stick as I know its a popular prob. Its only happened twice now but its a worry. Engine fault light comes on and car goes into limp home mode. Turn off for 10 seconds, start all seems fine. What is the best place to start in trying to get rid of the problem? First time was low revs around town second was 3 months later on motorway. Any help would be gteat. Thanks.

Hi, could you provide a few more details, petrol/diesel, age of car, mileage, etc?
Thanks

I no this sounds stupid but with fiat i have heard any thing elec ya should rev the car up and stall it i no it sounds stupid but i have seen this work before doesnt solve every prob but maybe a start if not sounds like some thing blocked

car is a 02 diesel, done about 100,000 miles. appear to have gained a flat spot at about 3000 revs now too.

JTD engine has a few quirks, EGR valve sticking open sounds promising though, this causes poor running and noticeable smoke.
Revving hard and taking your foot off quick might unstick it, but it's a temporary fix and the EGR really needs dismantling and cleaning.
MAF and MAP sensors could do with a clean, search this forum for advice on cleaning the MAF, it's all too easy to kill it, MAP sensor does respond well to cleaning but is often known to go terminal shortly afterwards.
MAP sensor is located on the cylinder head to the left of the EGR housing, this measures air pressure going into the cylinders and sends a signal to the ECU which varies fuel delivery/turbo boost as appropriate.
Turbo boost might not be working properly, boost sensor might not be giving the correct signal due to vacuum pipe damage, turbo induction system might have leaks.
Check the small tube that comes from the bottom of the turbo housing (behind the radiator down low) to the turbo boost sensor on the inner wheel arch below the battery for leaks.
Doubt if it's injectors, the noticeable flat spot at 3k seems to preclude them as if they were clogged it would be noticeab throughout the range.
As you've got a error logged, it might be worth acquiring an EOBD scanner, at around £25 delivered it'll give you a diagnosis and somewhere to work from.

EGR valve is DIY able if you've got good allen/hex keys, strong fingers and a can do attitude, failing that most mobile mechanics will have dealt with an EGR or several before.

Try disconnecting the MAF, on the inlet trunking just to the left of the air filter box - it will run on default values - if you notice an improvement, Maf is fritzed.
