My partners multipla has been a pain since its purchase but at the moment it keeps losing power, not always going into limp mode though, so far the garage has change the turbo and 2 of the supposedly 3 over boost valve but to no avail, recently it refused to start but then started fine the next day, the garage is now saying the ecu is shot and needs replacing as well as the third over boost valve. please help otherwise its getting scrapped :bang:

Hello,
Assuming that we are talking JTD here and the way the garage are dealing with the problem tells me that they are not that familiar with these cars. That being the case and if they are reading the fault codes then these often give you a bum steer. Depending on the age and mileage [could do with these], then the problem will usually be the EGR valve which needs replacement as a first job. The replacement of the turbo is hardly ever needed unless the seals are blown and it is burning a lot of oil - however the fault codes have a tendency to suggest this which is what i mean by a bum steer. You need to get the garage to put all the stuff they have replaced back on the car as it probably wasn't needed. Tell them to always start looking at the EGR valve first as a bbit of free advice!

It's a diesel, but what model / year? Does the power tail off on long uphill climbs? When you have trouble starting, is that from cold or once the engine has warmed up?

From your description of the fault(s), it's very unlikely to be the ECU.
