Having phoned Shop4parts for advice, which they are very good at proferring, I learned from the VIN chassis number that the car was manufactured in November 200.
So what you might ask?
The car was first registered in April 2003!
Is it normal for a Multi to have lingered somewhere (where?) for two and a half years?
Or should I be suspecting a more sinister explanation?
Any comments, observations or experiences would be appreciated.

Could have possibly been imported.

could be that their database is wrong.

have a look around for an airbag sticker with a couple of holes punched in it. cant remember where it is though, possibly door jambs or in the glove box. this is the date the airbags are supposed to be changed. count ten years back and there's your build date.

failing that any service history? have a look at the pdi date.

last resort ring up fiat and get them to do a SIGI. they may or may not let you have a print out. this will tell you the build date, warranty start date, and if its a UK spec car the code should start 3112 from memory.

Thanks Davren.
I got onto ePER and all was revealed.
Juxtaposition of two digits brought up 3 door year 2000 Punto!
Correct entry provides Multi, with correct original engine number, with date of manufacture February 2003 so registering car in April appears perfectly reasonable.
However I didn't know of ePAR so thanks again, and I've printed off entry for future reference.

wow stored for 1803 years. Must be a record.

As old as [ I wish :) ] my 60's frog

I can remember these parked in the Haymarket at Newcastle-upon-Tyne being used as taxis.

It was only the day before yesterday. Or was it the century before last...;)

And damn expensive nowadays. Have you seen how much they sell for?

Maybe one day, our Multis will appreciate in value to such heady heights.

OK, maybe not.

As a matter of interest the average eBAY price for frogs of 2003 or less has been stable and rising in the last 20 months. Example a half decent JTD ELX on a 2002 is about the same price as it was nearly 2 years ago.

Maybe the non~facelift models are .. .. .. starting to appreciate
