After passing my MOT with flying colours yesterday the bloody thing only went out and killed one of it's engine mounts today!

Got it back to the garage on a flatbed thanks to the AA.

The mount was on the gearbox end as it was the passenger side driveshaft that ended up with the gearbox resting on it. Anyone else had this happen to them???? What type of bill do you think I'll be looking at.

Maybe 7 year and 100k miles it's time to move on!

Did you have any warning?,my jtd on changing up seems clunky, I have been advised that it could be the engine mounts, so I am changing them all including the gearbox mounting, how much do you think its going to cost you for the one.

JTD 115, 2002, 75k Mine was moments away from failure when I spotted it, gearbox mount was completely corroded and splitting open, easy to replace bit expensive £55 from fiat dealer.

No I've had no warning, had just taken a tight bend and then it went.

I had the clutch replaced about August last year and the garage refitted the gearbox mount which must have looked ok then.

£55 plus labour shouldn't be too much of a hit. Just hope the driveshaft is ok.

Hi,this is a lovely car, but I am starting to wonder about its build quality!,I think its a good idea to change all the mounts, how many are there engine mounts and gearbox in total,I will go to the main dealer to order them ,then my mechanic can fit.
Is it the main dealer the cheapest option or are there any other avenues I should check, scrappers or salvage?
I will first check with my mechanic if the engine mounts are the problem, has anyone got the eper numbers for these mounts, I have the gearbox number the new version, how much time does it take to change the engine mounts?

Back on the road again! Driveshaft seems to have escaped injury only the clip on the boot was damaged.

The mount however looks a poor design - very thin Alloy casing glued/pressed onto a rubber mount. The alloy had corroded and eventually fractured.

How may mounts are there total? I see one on the top drivers side near the diesel fuel filter and one underneath the car that looks round in shape but where is the best view/access point to see and get access to the gearbox one? I am assuming 3 in total, is this correct?

what i should do is weld it if it not surpost two knock around then why is the rubber there for becouse when you weld it or put in anouther thin 6mll bar it should hold it for years two come maby more if done properly.

Yesterday my 2003 1.9 JTD had to be recovered due to what I think is a failed gearbox mount resulting in the whole gearbox/engine dropping, and the driveshaft ending up resting on the suspension arm. What a noise it made after it went. The car is now safely at home but I need to purchase a new mount and get it fitted ASAP.

Does anybody know the best place to get one? or is it a Fiat only part?

What do I have to remove to get access to the mount?

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Try eurocarcare in Derby (google) or shop4parts.

It's rubber because it's supposed to move around a little. Going solid will both increase noise and vibration and put unacceptable loads into the chassis. If caught early enough, most of these kinds of mounts respond well to taking off the car, lining up in their proper orientation, and filling with a PU, like sikaflex or tigerbond.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me on Friday, just before the long bank holiday. Fortunately I was only 200yrds from home. It sounded like the engine had fallen onto the road ! The aluminium casing round the rubber bung had corroded and shattered, shearing off a retaining bolt below and dropping the gearbox onto the nearside axle. Strapped the engine up over the battery with a luggage strap and drove home. New mounting was £84 inc vat from Fiat (dealer specific part), took little over 30 mins to fit by friendly local mechanic. Also split the rubber boot clip.

Same thing just happened to my ugly bug (1.9 JTD) - big clunk, awful sounding noise, thought at first it was terminal the noise was that bad.
AA came and had a look and said engine mounting failure on nearside. Now in garage awaiting confirmation of this and reasonable cost repairs, hopefully. :)

Sounds all too familiar...

I've just fitted a new Alternator to my '02 115 JTD, so get enough access I dropped the subframe and engine mounts off.

When I went to fit the front-left engine mount, and couldn't get all the bolts in.
Got the two front ones started, but the hole for the rear one was half a hole out of line.
The Alloy body of the mounting block had split (just like the Alternator), due to corrosion.
When I removed the block and mounting from the gearbox, it was clear it was totally knackered.
The casing crumbled into three or four pieces when I tried to undo the main bolt, and I had to cut the bolt and use a club-hammer to remove it from the mounting, it was so corroded.

My local Fiat dealer quoted me over £100 (don't know exactly how much as my ears went into auto-shutdown when they heard the 'hundred'), as did the only other local place that listed them.

Found a used one on ebay in the end, should arrive later today hopefully.
Seems like some Alfa ones are the same from all the searching I did.

That looks like the bush rather than the mounting, but it's a good spot. Thanks!

What's also interesting is the other 'engine mount' Euorcarparts show for the diesel Multipla. It looks very much like a pressed steel version of the finned aluminium gearbox mounting that several people on here have had fail. Cheap too - about £13 as opposed to the £80-odd that Fiat are asking. I would post a link to the page but the search is done in sessions on that website.

Unlucky mate, makes you jump when one of them goes on you, i paid £58 plus vat fiat own parts, easy fix to do yourself only took me an hour, got a trolley jack under the engine and lined it up only one bolt to undo

Hi, I can't be certain but I think europarts sell them for £32 less 31% . It looks like the right one but the description lists it as engine mount (rear). Might be worth further investigation.
The rear one is totally different.
Eurocarparts said they should be able to get one, but never rang back, and I needed it pronto, so went with the used Brava one off ebay.
The holes for the mounting were slightly out, but a little filing/slotting sorted that.
The anti-rotation ribs on the boss were also 90° out, so I had to cut fresh slots in the Gearbox mount fitting.
Also, the Brava uses a 12mm bolt, whereas the Multi's is a 10mm, so I had to get a new bolt, and drill out the mount to suit.
All done now, and works fine.
