Cinquecento My '93 1.4 16v Cinquecento

Introduction

Hi everyone,

After best part of ten years with various Italian cars, I'm now back where I started.... with a Cinq!!

I bough it already converted to 1242 16v power but it will be undergoing a lot of work to improve and tidy bits here and there.

Since buying it I've swapped the K&N for a CDA, I've re-fitted the orange front indicators and flushed the coolant and fitted a cleaner expansion tank. Alternator belt changed, that's fun with the engine mount being so close! Major service coming soon as well.

Please excuse the crappy pictures, my phone is rubbish!!

Rear window is tinted, that will be coming off:

Has a 1.6 16v Bravo TB, RR'd at 89bhp:

With my standard Seicento Sporting:

Lots of stuff on the to do list including fitting Spax kit (ordered), move the battery back in to the engine bay, moving ECU to other side of engine bay, polybush nearly everything I can buy a polybush for, put rear seats back in, upper and lower strut bar and fit Uno turbo calipers! Should keep me busy!

Lots more little jobs need doing, car has been keyed so that needs doing as well. I might upgrade to a 1.4 at some point but I won't get too carried away yet!

Overall though it's a cracking little car, so much fun and once I've sorted a few bits (mainly the brakes and the suspension!!) it should be fantastic.

Only revolutions and other more Motorsport wheels

Have got some standard Seicento Sporting wheels I could try but they just look like they won't fit.

Not sure what I'd do if they balanced the wheels with weights closer to the spokes. Might have to just use them ones that clip round the rim.

PGT (or Alfa 145 in this case) calipers are now officially going on the Cinq. Will be getting two refurbed calipers and using these for the surcharge, going to shot blast the sliders at work. Already have new discs and pads that I was going to fit on the Alfa before it died.

Very happy. They fill the wheels nicely and I did always love the stopping power on my old Cinq :slayer:

Set of Uno turbo calipers up for sale soon I guess!!

Re: My '93 1242 16v Cinquecento

it did work but it only changes that post. The first post is always editable by the OP (that might just be in MM section, can't remember).

You will notice the default title changed when Didge changed it on his post so unless someone changes again it will stay as it is now.

The only people that can change the title as it is shown in the list of threads is the section mod where said thread it (mm in this case) or a super-mod. If it bothers you greatly press the report button. I don't see it as a big issue though and this is a massive section to mod, i'm not a single bit jealous of mr.dvl for having to mod this section - but becasue its so big it can only be done properly if people report things - he can't sit and read every single post in the MM section, you would never ever get through it all!!

Quick update, car is in need of MOT so it's not been anywhere for a while. On a low mileage insurance policy so just as well!

New gearknob:

Wanted something a bit different from the usual "tuner" style stuff and everything under the sun has Abarth badges on it so got a Giannini (not geniune) wooden gearknob for a bit of a retro feel! Meant getting rid of the lift up collar for reverse but it still works fine. Think I'll paint the exposed gearstick black.

Got some camber bolts and wheel studs from Demon Tweeks so they'll be on soon. Also got some metal to have a go at a lower strut bar that won't hit the floor

Love it (y)

How did you go about fitting it? :)

Cut the old one off then removed all the cables and springs and plastic bits for the lift up collar.

New gearknob has plastic insert up the middle that cuts a thread as you screw it on for first time but no thread on a Cinq gearstick, just a spline at the the top so......

....hit it on with a hammer!! No way it's coming off now! You do have to be quite accurate when going from 4th to 5th but it's not been a problem so far.

Got it from here:

Got some nice repro classic stickers as well. Got one for my back window that adds a touch of Italianess, yet to stick it on though.

Update!

Sporting ARB and Strongflex bushes:

Painting my Alfa 145 brakes and the brackets for the ARB after a go in the shot blasting cabinet:

Think the brakes turned out pretty sweet, cleaned up the pistons and replaced all the rubber:

240mm solid Vs 257mm vented:

Fitted! EBC Greenstuff pads, standard Pagid discs and stainless Hosetechnik hoses. Also fitted Eibach camber bolts after I took this pic, running 1.5 degrees negative up front now:

Behind my 13s  Also swapped to lightweight wheel nuts and studs instead of bolts:

New rad hose from Poland:

Rear trailing arms are off and bushes removed:

After a session or two in the shot blasting cabinet:

Fitted a Momo wheel I had:

Now, this is gonna be a love or hate thing but it's only until I can afford to get the wheels refurbed. Managed to get the original wheel trims to fit over my alloys. Just for a bit more of a sleeper feel and because the trims were sitting about doing nothing!

Done lots of other little bits like new rad fan switch and speedo cable. New 1.6 throttle body from Poland as well.

More to come some, more braking improvements and a few new aesthetic touches. Fabia splitter is off and I've got something a bit deeper instead.

All good stuff :) Lots of progress!

Loving the brakes, i have the same setup, well worth it! Although, im very jealous of your blasting cabinet.

What was the purpose of buying that rad hose then?

Always loved the 257mm brakes on my old Cinq, great fun for terrifying passengers :D

Blasting cabinet is at work, currently spending all my lunch breaks blasting stuff! Wondering if I should shot blast the whole rear axle/subframe thingy, the cost of the hammerite might bankrupt me though.

Rad hose is just cos old one was leaking but it will allow me to run universal silicone lengths at some point if I wanted to. Bought lots of stuff from unto.pl - highly recommended. Cheaper than I get through work and I work in a motor factors!!

Fitted my new speedo cable but still not getting any readings on my speedo

Old cable was snapped but surely the dials didn't fail as well??!!

As far as I could see there is only one choice of cable, I'm running a Seicento gearbox and Cinq Sporting clocks.

Something I'm doing wrong?
