Stilo My Stilo Active Sport

Introduction

This is my first try at posting a photo. I hope it works.
I know what you mean but you only have to look at the car to fall in love with it, well I did. When I got that one we actually went out to get my wifes Punto but came back with The Stilo. It was in the middle of the showroom and the guy dealing with my wife was busy so we had a sit in it. My wife said "I'm alright for a motor for a while why don't you get this one for yourself." I didn't need asking twice. I do like the 147 but it's about £3k more still I suppose you get what you pay for.

Maybe it was a tad harsh and yes the Stilo is a good lookin motor - better than your standard golf or run of the mill corrolla but I just found it bizarre how two, essentially the same design, same capacity engines had different outputs when both come from the same company - you'd think to match the 'sport' bit in the model type they woul put the 120bhp engine in. Then again, that could be treading on the abarth's toes performance wise (correct me if i'm wrong)

I agree it wouldn't have hurt them but although I would like to have the extra 17bhp it's still a fun car to drive. I have 6k miles on it now and it has just got better and better. I'm not saying it's perfect but I am still finding excuses just to go out and drive it. We've never had so many take aways.

I dont dispute that it's a good car to drive - certainly looks it. That's the excuse I use for getting fat too (y) Well good luck with the car and I hope you get many happy years out of her :)

Not exactly difficult - who couldnt!? It's damn good to drive too - esp. the diesel. Get angeltuning to 'breath' upon it and you'll be laughing all the way home

I know how you feel Brian  However, no offence intended, but all of you with the 1.6 Stilo have been had!! The 1.6 147 has 120bhp in standard form  Is that what twin sparking an engine does for you??

BUT... compare the insurance groupings ;)

Get a dog and let it dig up your garden searching for the treasure - worked for me (y) If you haven't got kids a great way to get into Alfa's is with a lovely used V6 GTV. Not too good round the twisties but not too much for an anti-roll bar to sort out

Kids. I have a daughter in her second year at Surrey University and it's costing us a bomb. The second daughter is not so costly but when she does come home I normally have to open my wallet. Bless 'em.

Well, when your first daughter has her job maybe she can start paying you back for being such a good father :p Are they both below four-feet? If so then they will fit in the rear seats. lol

Alfa156.net, I believe the reason that the Stilo uses relatively low spec engines is simply due to the 156! The stilo wasn't allowed to creep into its territory. Other members will soon correct me if i am wrong though but that's the general answer people give to that question.

Hence the 156 isn't something the Stilo could aspire to be, it was something it had to be unlike!

I can kind of accept that but they are completely different types of car  Typical italian beaurocracy for you! :nutter:

maybe its just the fact that its an Alfa romeo and people expect them to be a certain way i.e nippy.. I know in my experience you cannot drive an Alfa without feeling some kind of thrill. Where as the Stilo 1.6 was aimed at a totally different market.
120bhp is hardly stepping on the Abarths toes though.. the 1.8 must be closer to the Abarth than that so im sure it wasn't that fact.
Lovely car BrianK, you must be well pleased.

Thanks BrianK.. I have to say, I do like my car ;) But even then I have spent over £1000 on its mods in the first 6 weeks of its life.. At least I got it the way I want and I can just enjoy it now..But then I planned for this car for a long time, and its nice to go out to it every morning, I open that door and the selespeed gearbox starts to engage before i get in. Makes me smile every time :)

Would you say there's much of a difference between the four door saloon 156 and a three or five door hatch Stilo Paul?

Liam

Hi Stuart Demon D, Yes I am enjoying it very much. I feel like a born again boy racer. Also in this neck of the woods, Benfleet to Southend there should be loads of Stilos but on a trip to Southend yesterday the only ones I saw were outside the dealers in Westcliff at least there were a load of cars there I assume there was a couple of Stilos amongst them. It still seems to be a very select motor car in this area. Unlike my old vehicle a Jeep Grand Cherokee on the journey there was so many I lost count over 23.
