Hello ff , iv got a 98 r reg weekend 2.0 20v my a/c is great at pumping out nuclear reaction heated hot air , but not so great at making it cold , on a cool day it 'seems' to work , but on hot days like today- niet!! , iv tried it on the auto setting and it makes loads of noise but no cold air , if had the blowers off and just pushed the '*' button for the a/c and i get a nice cool waft of air but only on cool days, is there a sightglass i can check for the gas level , am i using it correctly , best place to get it re-gassed (if needed),deos it really use the much more petrol while its on , and any other advice would be great , this is the 1st time iv had a/c in a car and iv believe i used it every couple of weeks just to keep it ticking over as it were - sorry if iv rambled on.-Many thanks ff.:worship:

Yours is not working, it should blow icy cold even on a hot day. There is no sight glass so a pressure check and maybe a re-gas is a good first step. I've posted my dealings already on here but cooling fan problems where the rejected heat from the a/c is dumped to atmospere was part of it, also triple switch and compressor. You may be lucky with a re-gas only.

Thanks Renegade8 , il have a nose around for the cheapest re-gas in essex.

Some Halfords do regassing of A/C, might be worth a trip.

I had mine regassed after nine years and it cost about £40, yes it uses alot more petrol when running A/C and yes your supposed to run it for at least 10mins every week to stop bacteria forming in the A/C.
I don't run mine every week but every month or so, your A/C also runs when you select the quick defrost settings.

Thanks Notorious , the Halfords around me dont do a/c abut they sell the kits for £40,so im gonna book it in at Fiat to do for the same.

When you use an air con specialist they can put leak tracer in, it's a UV dye that shows up around the leak if the system loses pressure. No idea if Quikfit are that clever. If you look in "garages" you will see that FFers have had mixed impressions of them.
