Can anyone tell me how to change acam belt on a jtd 75 brava the belt has slipped, how do I check for any damage.
 
EDIT: the below is for a Marea 75, I think there is a manual for the Bravo too, I will post another post below this one in a few minutes.

Now on the CD you will want to choose
"Volume 1"
"engine"
"engine 1910 TD 75"

Basically, what it comes down to is that you undo the top supporting/damping rod on the timing belt end, you do this by undoing the bolt closest to the bulkhead onto the bracket at the back of the engine bay. Undo the 2 vertical bolts closest to the timing belt cover and the horizontal bolt going into the timing belt cover, then you wiggle the assembly free from the mounting.

Then you undo the timing belt upper cover screws x5 IIRC, carefully pull the cover upwards away from the lower cover, there are two plastic clips holding internally onto the lower cover you don't want to break these (like I did).

Then release the tension adjuster on the alternator belt and remove the belt

**You might want to remove the inner wheel arch at this point. makes it easier later on.

undo the four bolts holding the alternator belt/crankshaft pulley to crankshaft and remove pulley.

undo lower timing belt cover retaining screws 4 IIRC (one small one to the rear of the engine) remove lower cover.

Now with spanner on crankshaft nut turn engine clockwise, until injector pump pulley (top rear) timing mark lines up with timing mark in the top rear corner of the engine casing at the same time the timing mark on the camshaft pulley is (or should be) lined with a timing mark on the front edge of the camcover, approx three teeth above the top face of the cylinderhead. (the CD manual has pictures). At this point the injector pulley can be "locked down" by passing an M5 bolt through a hole into the engine block.

Now check camshaft sprocket has the pin at the bottom,
I think it should be slightly past 6 oclock, Now if you look closely at the sprocket you might see an arrow mark at about 9 Oclock , use a screwdriver to punch a mark into the metal engine case (rear of timing belt ) right next to this arrow.

Ok so your belt should be lined up properly now, and locked in place on the injector pulley.

Undo the TB tension adjuster fastening nut, Before you do this you could look to note the position your tension pointer is in, it should be high and pointing to a small circle on the tension adjuster backplate. No matter, it is just interesting to see how much tension was on the belt - possible cause of failure ???.

Now TB will go slack and you will be able to pull it off the pulleys.

Put new belt on

tension adjuster by hand (pull it up) then (best to have 2 people) from within the wheel arch use a large screwdriver - put the head into the small hole below (the bottom right of) the tension adjuster and lever the tension adjuster as much as you can, watch the pointer go up, and lock the tension nut in position.

Remove the injector pulley locking bolt, check 3 timing marks are all as they were. and rotate engine clockwise two complete revolutions till all 3 timing marks re-allign, check they are all lined up.

now - what I did was to stick something in that hole below the timing tenision adjuster besides the screwdriver head (to take up the excess room) so that I could get more leverage onto the TB adjuster. Lok at the pointer, if it is below the circle mark at the top of the tension adjuster backplate, you need to undo the tension adjuster and lever it again this time making sure the pointer points to the circle. Now tighten the nut on the adjuster and it should be ok

Refitting in a reversal of the above.

tension adjuster nut 50Nm
Support/damping rod bolts x 4 each 50Nm
timing belt cover screws, a bit of threadlock, and very lightly tightened only 10Nm
4x pulley bolts - dunno torque but can help if required it's on the CD under
"Volume 1"

Retension alternator belt (dunno exact procedure but manual might say)

That should be about it, check car starts. You might want to think about having a compression test done (with new belt fitted) to make sure you haven't bent some valves - which you probably have done.

Oh, and btw,

If your belt did slip, your timing could be out, In which case, I would not lock the injection pump pulley, I would 'time-up' the camshaft pulley, then look to see if the injection pump pulley is correctly alligned, if it is lock it, if it isn't for get about it, until you fit the new belt - then before you do fit the belt, lock it in position.

Once you have the camshaft pulley lined up, check the crankshaft pulley has the pin just after 6, oclock. If it isn't and in anycase no matter where it is I forsee a problem, you won't know where it is supposed to be - because (if it anything like my marea) believe it or not - there is no timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket! (that's why I had to make my own one).

They have a special tool (listed for the Marea, for the Brava you will have to help yourself) tool No. 1860905000 which is used to accurately position the crankshaft pulley. It is just a bit of pressed steel, so it should not be expensive to order the tool from Fiat - which I think you should do because you need to be sure that your engine is alligned correctly.
