Hi everyone. I do not know much about fiats but really like them so i will describe my problem the best i can

Just bought a marea estate elx weekend 1,8 16v.

The ABS light is on, stays on all the time and never goes off, so i took it for a diagnostic check and they said to me it doesnt even have ABS ???

Please can anybody shed any light on this

Thanks for helping :)

Hi

I am 100% sure this car doesnt have ABS. I took it down to the garage earlier on today for a diagnostic check and they told me it doesnt have ABS. I have looked on this forum to find out where the ABS unit is, and my car doesnt have it, yet the light is on all of the time.... I am very confuser about this matter

Cheers for replying (y)

I thought all Mareas had ABS? This may just be a shorted break pad wear wire, it can be wheel sensor. You will still have enormal brakes so not dangerous.

Think you'll need to wait for Jug on this one. I'll bet he has an idea or 2.

lol, put me under pressure why dont you! someone should PM me when there's an interesting thread in the marea section, i hate to miss an unusual fault :D

This may just be a shorted break pad wear wire

not possible that would illuminate the pad wear light not the abs light.

from the bit of investigation i've just done in google, is does appear that a 1.8 marea weekend should not have ABS, however it is important to remember that ABS could have been added by the dealer (as an option extra for example).

i think you may have been told you do not have ABS because the garage used the main diagnsotic socket, and this will not allow a connection to the ABS controller, so no ABS options would be shown, suggesting no ABS module is present. this is a common mistake made when working on multiple 3pin connector setups (as used on several fiats), garages are used to using a single obd2 socket and anything else often throws them.

first thing to do is look for the ABS diagnostic socket and any other ABS system components. the attached image shows the location of the socket, and the second image shows all parts, check for them.

assuming you find ABS is fitted to your car you need to diagnose and repair your abs system.
either get a diagnstic done (using the correct connector this time) or diagnose and repair it yourself (one of my previous guides may help, for example https://www.fiatforum.com/marea/83333-abs-sensor.html)

if you dont find any ABS system components on your car, we need to think about what triggers the ABS light. the second attached image shows the wiring diagram for the ABS system. the ABS light is illuminated when the ABS controller earths the RED/GREEN coloured wire. the abs light will constantly get a live signal (when ignition switched on) from the fuse and relay unit (4 on diag). on earth switched systems like this a wiring fault can easily bring the light on (for example if the red/green wire has a damaged sheath allowing it to earth).

if you are 100% certian you dont have ABS, chop the red/geen wire at the back of the intrument panel, that will turn the light off and stop the short to earth.

Jug,

I'd like you to either marry my ex-wife or wait a few years, marry my daughter & be my beloved son-in-law.

How are your general diy skills? You could mow the lawn, trim the hedge, replace slates, mend the guttering..... Ah, I can see your life mapped out, Jug.

Is it a deal?
