Does anybody know the kind of plastic used on 131 bumpers?Any info appreciated!

Thanks mate!(y) I wonder why the hell didn`t they imprint that?! Anyways ill give it a go,hope it works.:bang:

Yes,i plan to weld the sucker because i`ve been going through my stuff recently and i found out that it has a crack. As it`s only a spare i want to play with it:D.
If the bugger proves to be a handfull i`ll take it to the shop.I came to the idea watching the guy that normally works with plastic, and thought "how hard can that be?!".Anyway thanks for your interest and a nice history lesson!(y)

Fingers down in the cento section done this I think, you can get bike shops to do it or use those plumbers torches and something suitable for welding rod.

It`s no biggie i think,i already got me one of those temperature regulated blower.I mean,it`s not actually rocket science if you get me:) .Even if i screw up,i can always chunk it away.Would be a bleeding shame though,`cause this is pretty rare stuff,at least in my neck of the woods.

Hmmm ... I could swear that most car bumpers are polypropylene (PP)?

You might find http://www.popularmechanics.com/how_to_central/automotive/2763656.html?page=2 interesting.

interesting link. according to that link:

Not all plastic bumpers are made from the same stuff. But with the fascia removed, it's easy to identify the type of plastic because it's stamped into the back side. Stamps of PP (polypropylene), PPO (polyphenylene oxide) and TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) indicate plastics that smear easily when ground or machine sanded. Stamps of PUR (polyurethane plastic rigid) and TPUR (thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer) are plastics that powder when ground or sanded.

i thought PP, PPO & TPE are all ABS plastics? i didnt know PUR and TPUR were even used.

i've repaired many bumpers (of different types of plastic) by dissolving abs shavings in acetone. it makes a liquid abs glue that you can use to repair almost anything thats plastic. it also fills moulds. (y)

It`s pretty rubbery so my guess is ABS,its more of a rip then a crack.Someone probably rear ended it and it showed only when i took it of.Still didn`t get around to fix it since i had a ton of work but hope to do it this weekend. Thanks for all the help!
