Ok so the new Panda 100HP uses the same engine as the Grande Punto but has an extra 5bhp. Instead of have the ****ty button.... sorry! CITY button it has a sport button which sharpens throttle response and DECREASES the power assistance.....

Now to the point....

If that can be done on the PANDA, surely it must be possible to do it to the Punto... as an aftermarket mod cos it must be done thro the ECU......

DISCUSS!

these are the kind of mods i love doing. :D

the power steering is electric, so it should be easy to adjust the assistance up or down if you figure out how the standard system does it, i think it's probably something as simple as a change of voltage going ot the motor. if you had a pot (such as a volume knob) you could constantly adjust the voltage to the motor, which would adjust the assistance. alternatively if the assistance works on 2 pre set modes in the steering ecu then surely you could either change the pre set modes in the punto ecu (copy from panda ecu) or just use the ecu from the panda (depends on wiring differences). or you could modify the punto ecu steering modes manually to reduce the assistance. this approach requires more technology that a pot, you'd need a laptop with software that can access and modify data in the steering ecu, i cant help you there.

you need a link to fiat manuals for the GP and panda so you can compare both systems and decide what needs to be done, without relibale info its just guess work.

as for the sport mode, i think this will be due to a second map in the main ecu which is triggered by the sport button, you could add that to the punto if you took the panda ecu and sport button, which would be a nightmare, so taking the map and copying it to the punto ecu is a better option, although you would be in sport mode permanently. you would probably get 5bhp from any remap so why bother with the panda map when you could have a custom map made instead. this will be a better option, a custom map always is.

Just have done induction and re-map for the 1368 on the Punto. Power output was before 96bhp. With induction and re-map 114bhp. Peak torque increased by 20%. Total cost under £400.

Unfortunately it isn't save to go much further because the conrods are not up to much more.

Peter will have to confirm this but from what I remember the Panda 100HP ECU (and some of the GP 1.4 16v Sporting ECU's) are completely locked down and can't be remapped.

An induction kit would see an improvement on the engine but unfortunately that's about all that can be done without major engine work.

Hope that helps.

if it cant be remapped then a piggy back ecu could be used.

The Bosch ECU on the Panda 100 really doesn't like piggy backs, tapping into the cam/crank sensors is quite hard due to the background electrical noise -many piggybacks are thrown occasionally by this including AEM's FIC causing flatspots, stalls etc :( (the standard ecu filters out this noise)

-remap will come...
