Hi!
I am not going to modify the engine of the Tempra I use, since it still is owned by my father and for him it is just fine as it is now
However, being no engine expert, I would like to get an idea of the power (and fuel consumption) increase that there could be by making some modifications to the carb setup.
The stock carb is one double barrel Weber 32/34 TLDE 23. I suppose that, by changing the intake manifold, it would be possible to mount another one of these, so that each cylinder would have its own barrel. What about this configuration? I think this would be difficult to achieve because a quite big carb "cover" with air filter would be needed and maybe the hood won't close...
Otherwise, what about exchanging the stock carb with a bigger one, while maintaining the one double-barrel configuration? I read on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_SOHC#Carburettor) that Weber 40 DCNF could be used. From what I understood it is a quite "powerful" part! In this case, if the size is not much bigger than the original carb, probably the hood would close and it would be possible to maintain the stock air filter.
Can you give me a rough idea of the performance increase (if any) of the two configurations listed above? What about fuel consumption increase in "normal" (not pushed to the limits) driving? The engine is 1581cc, 86 HP (62 kW).
Probably a big part of what I wrote is pure nonsense, but who knows...
