actualy just paused it at 0.34 and it says seat panda ???? wtf
If you go back far enough all Seats had the same number code as FIATs, ie. 850, 124 and so on. I think it was only after the VW takeover that most of their models took on names of their own, such as the Ibiza. I think the one in the advert must be a South American model as the SEAT version we had over here was called (I think) the Marbella and looked more modern with rear wheelarch spats and a different front panel.
Some manufacturers have strange arrangements for different territories and export markets. In the late '60s and early '70s the Hillman Avenger was sold in the US as the Chrysler Cricket, the European Capri was sold in the US as the Capri by Lincoln-Mercury and the Opel GT and Manta (A)were both sold over there as Opel by Buick and a Canadian version of the Chevrolet Chevy Nova was known as the Acadian and was actually built in Canada and was identical to its American brother apart from badges. I was told the different names were down to the American dealers worrying that their customers would take a trip north to buy them because the cars were cheaper in Canada. Obviously, when it came to selling their Canadian Acadians second hand when they were three years old in Wisconsin, or wherever, the resale value would have been less.
Vauxhalls were sold in Canada but not the US and Opels were sold in the US.....but not Canada.
Oh, nearly forgot, Austin-Morris sold a locally made version of the old 1100/1300 with a larger boot in Spain called the Victoria and Land Rovers, also known as Santanas were made and sold, also in Spain. If you remember the TV advert for LV Liverpool Victoria where the old Volvo estate careers down the hill and hits a load of other cars, one of the parked cars that gets clouted was a Victoria.
In Brazil there was a locally made 127 3 door hatch and Panorama (3 door estate) which looke a little like the 127 at the front but was more reminiscent of a 1972 VW Variant of a decade earlier at the rear. It also had a 1.3 litre diesel with 44bhp and a stump pulling 54 ft/lb of torque!!
