posting in here as it's going to get nasty

the recent Punto evo has made me think, how many Fiats have actually improved looks wise following a midlife facelift? i don't care about practicalitys just pure outside looks. though it does get difficult with the Punto for example, with two facelifts..

i'll get us started with a few...

Cars which haven't
GP
Punto Mk2b
Tipo
Multipla

Cars which Have
Punto Mk2
original Panda

The 128 coupe was sooooooo elegant and then they made it the 3p :yuck:

Technically the Mk2 wasn't a face lift it was a new model.

Exactly, whilst the mk1 had Giorgetto Giugiaro designing it, the mk2 is about 80% different, and penned by some nobody at Fiat in-house design.

Credit where it's due though, the high-level lights were apparently not a Giugiaro feature, Fiat in-house design came up with that!

Okay...so its finally been pointed out that the Punto Mk2 was a new model and not a facelift to the Mk1...

But am I the only person who doesn't think the Mk2 was an improvement on the styling??

Then again...I had a Mk1 for 8 years so may be biased! ;)

Orr...for the purposes of this thread any car with the same name could be considered a face lift?

sorry for misleading i thought the Mk2 punto was just a significantly facelifted mk1, in that it remains the same mechanically underneath. though using that i suppose you could argue a seicento is a facelift of a cinquecento.

so for the purposes of this thread cars which share name and platform, such as punto mk1/2/2b will count as facelifts, the GP is a new start as different car entirely.

the Mk2 is nicer than a Mk1 so it counts as an improved facelift....

While the Mk2 punto was a nice different styling (aside from many issues that the mk1 didn't have, in many cases it was worse than the mk1. No footrest for example) the MK2b ruined it. The styling was not the thing people were complaining about Fiat.

The Punto Evo I must admit looks acceptable to me now but I still thought the original grande was the better looker.

this isn't about the improvements to the model, whether that's interior spec or such like just plain old good looks from the outside.

Definitely agree about X1/9, in original spec they're nice, but with the silly bumpers not so good, a few cars received similar treatment of bumpers messing up lines, like MGB, most american cars never even made the requirements!

And the window wiper problem everyone has complained about, never even happened with the mk1! lol. :'). That wasn't even upgraded in the mk2b version. Poor poor showing. Fiat are crap! :')

And as far as styling goes, I like the sporting version of the mk2 punto compared to the other models. It looks completely different imo, with the skirts, lowered and wheels.
Mk2 sporting looks alot nicer than mk1 sporting. I would just not own either tbh
