I decided it would be a good idea to open a wiki site that allowed us all to edit and create guides. Christ knows, I've done enough work on my Barchetta to write a book!

It's a bit bare bones at the moment, but it's completely and utterly free, will always be updated and won't cost anyone (bar me) a penny.

So if you have any guides, information etc, please feel free to upload them to www.FIATwiki.org

Also, please remember that this is YOUR site, do what you want with it. I just think its' a good idea to collect and preserve all own knowledge in one place

well you could have added them here https://www.fiatforum.com/barchetta-guides/

but you have an account and a Fiat so could have/could add guides

I know how to add guides. This is a system where everyone can contribute to a single guide. Or perhaps post information that is not a guide.

Imagine how nice the guides section would be if everyone could edit the guides. Imagine how large and detailed it could grow.

You're really getting stuck in a technicality here.

i dont have a problem with a wiki
however with everyone contributing how do you vet the info?
my point is you could have done loads of guides here by your own admission but havent

Circular thinking. You assume one person writing a guide, which no one else can ever edit, produces a better result than having a system where any one can make corrections.

How do we vet info? With discussion on the topic in question. Same way as Wikipedia does, same way as every other Wiki does.

I don't add guides here because it's an outdated, inflexible system, hidden way on the corner of some discussion board.

I'm not trying to steal FF, I'm just trying to give us yet another valuable resource for things.

hidden? right at the top of the board?
if you are not adding to the guides then its not 'another' resource is it?
its a link hidden away in the corner of a discussion board

Hidden, yes. Because it's not even the main section of an English only Fiat based discussion forum. It's an off shoot, an after thought.

Look, the guides section is ****. Here's my idea to improve it. I don't see why there's an argument. Don't like it? Don't use it.

I'm not particularly interested in discussing this with you any more, it's becoming quite silly.

So when I come to Fiatforum.com with an issue with my Fiat you're saying I'd then have to go elsewhere to a page that despite being about 'FIAT' actually is just related to the B?

I don't get it.

p.s. couple of points.

We're English only as that is the worldwide accepted universal language. This allows for inclusion of other countries. If our Finnish or Egyptian members posted in their mothertounge then who here would know what they were talking about?

If a guide needs editing then the original creator or mod can change it. You can post what needs changing under the guide. Plus there will always be a fiatforum mod available as it's a whole team and not a single person.

It's not an afterthought though, it just needs its own section, along with the gallery, events, classifieds etc etc - if we had them all in the main forum, the list would be ridiculously long :)

As for your idea to improve it, what is that idea? Setting up a whole new site certainly doesn't improve the guides here - I'm happy to listen to new ideas, so feel free to make suggestions.

Having a "free to edit" though probably isn't going to be the best idea for the forum - there is too much chance of arguments occuring when people think to do things different ways .... sadly :(

dont like FF input on a topic, then dont post it

how you going to preserve it if any one can edit it? LOL

Every Wiki (or Swiki) I know of has a rollback feature and is moderated. I see no reason why there shouldn't be several ways of doing things (just as there are several ways of removing the rear suspension bushes from a Cento or Panda).

I suggested that the HowTos should be on a Wiki years ago -- it was pooo pooed at the time, but I didn't realise then how little understood the concept was............ :bang:

If it's seen as taking away from FF, FF can always link to it! ;)

Great, magnificent, wonderful idea. Now, comrades, we have control of the means of production.............. :)
