Hi all, This may seem like a silly question but is it possible to buy new engines from FIAT dealers? And if so, does anyone know what sort of prices they are (lets say for something like new 16V's or T-Jets)?

I presume you could get an engine replaced by FIAT under warranty should it fail, so it seems logical you could purchase them as you would any other spare parts doesn't it?

Yes is the short answer - should the new engine develop a fault however, a fiat dealer would need to diagnose the fault in order for a parts warranty issue to be completed IIRC.

you can only buy new engines for models that are currently in production.

the cost is absolutely crazy, it is much cheaper to buy from a breaker.

To put it in perspective It is £1250 for a Refurbished "Remanufactured" gearbox for a 1.4 16v F.I.R.E from Fiat direct. The engine itself would be in the region of £3500.

I assume you asking about T-jets as you want to do an engine transplant?. I'd just wait till people start stacking their GP's and Bravo's into trees (y).

Thanks for the replies guys, I did expect that they would be rather expensive but I didn't know for certain. I guess I'll just have to wait for people to start crashing their T-Jets. Hopefully won't be too long before we get some silly summer driving!

I guess like me you are planning a transplant? :chin:.

I have a mk2b Punto sporting 1.4 16v which is basically the same engine so hopefully my mounts will transfer over along with all the other crap :) :slayer:.

if its bascially the same engine... cant you buy the turbo off fiat and just fit that?

like the golf R32 engines were made to be supercharged but decided not to... so charging them is just a bolt on job

Nope not unless you like snapped con-rods :nerner:. The T-jet has a different part no for the Crank, and conrods and most the bottom end. So I assume this is because the ones in mine engine are too weak. Also ECU wont handle positive boost either and can't be arsed with a aftermarket solution.

Transplant it would be a case of wham bam thankyou mam fit it all and off I go 150bhp in a 980kg punto :slayer: . Only issues I can think of is exhaust (piece of pi**), and Body computer talking to the ECU properly as its all on the new dirty CAN system :bang:.

I doubt it'll be just a case of bolting the turbo onto the Starjet. I've not looked into it but I'd presume that converting the Starjet to T-Jet would require:
- Low comp pistons/decompression plate
- Turbo/Manifold (maybe downpipe too)
- Oil feed from the sump to the turbo???
- T-Jet's engine management system or a standalone fuel management system (Megasquirt, Emerald, Aquamist)

The list is endless but surfice to say an engine with wiring harness, loom and sensors from a breakers (when they start to get them in) would work out a lot cheaper than building it up from scratch.

Yeah I'm formulating ideas for a transplant. I want to put a T-Jet into a Cinq but there aren't any engines available yet. I'm not in a hurry though as i don't even own the car to put it into yet, I'll get that after I've obtained an engine (whenever that may be).

You seem skeptical... I haven't measured a T-Jet engine so I don't know if it will fit but it's a 1.4 FIRE block isn't it? They go into centos without too much trouble. I can see that the turbo on the front might present space issues, but can't that be addressed with some kind of bespoke manifold or something of the sort?

i'm sure at least one person on here has done the standard 1.4 16v into a cinq/sei your best bet would be to search the threads, and look closely to see how much space is left, but i'm sure i remember reading that it only just fitted.

just out of interest how does the size 1.4 FIRE compare with the Lampredi SOHC from tipo/uno/Punto GT? surely someones put the heavy lump in a cinq though?
