ecu failure on punto 1.2 8v 02 reg

hi just discovered this site
last friday car stated miss firing -AA diagnostic was coil b but on arrival at fiat dealership was advsd that this would not be the problem and that ecu was causing error (hes had 3 in last in month)
is this a common fault with puntos garage are now telling me have to wait for part from italy (got to be pulling a fast one with this) car still under warranty (which doesnt seem worth the paper its written on) car has just reached 30000 miles mostly motorway driving.
collegue has just has to have head gasket replaced and 3 sets of brakes so far on 1999 punto 29000 miles -anyone considering buying one think twice.

hi welcome to the forum
your problem sounds like a coil to me did they do a diagnostic test or just guess.
did your college check that the brakes needed replacing them selves or just take a garages word for it?
headgaskets usally go on puntos if the coolent gets changed at a service and is not bleed right.

dealership rang checks on ecu. collegue took car back to fiat dealership too -which having now read about on forums seems to have been a huge mistake -had old peugeot 205 serviced by local garage for many years with no probs -would appear best option is now to go back to having him look after car -doesnt offer courtesy car -but then neither do fiat dealership either (all out none avail) nice to actually have someone answer my questions finally.i would have moreluck locating the holy grail than getting a decent response from anyone in fiat customer service.

its a common problem to get bad earth connections near the battery area and engine earth it sends bad signals to the ecu, worth cleaning them

yeah i had the same problem. AA came out and messed with the coils etc....got towed to fiat and they replaced the ecu under warranty. I was lucky because they had the ecu at that garage so the car was ready that afternoon (and i got a hire car in the meantime.....)

i changed a 8v ecu on satuday for the same reason, its all true.
