other problem with broadband is not everyone can have it

I only have the cheapest "very narrow broadband" at 150kbps and it is pretty poor for speed if you want to download much but it will open up webpages as quick as any bb connection and I love the fact mainly that it is always on, i can't imagine dialing up - it would be odd.

In 10 years we won't require the same systems we have now if a lot of what I read is correct and we will rely much more on wireless node-to-node connections, especially for people from from normal connections. Not much help now though is it

It's like freeview, the government want us all to have these fancy new things but they don't work in a lot of the country - if London has it, then it's fine, sort of mentality. I disagree with that but then again, if i owned a BB company, would i see bother connecting 30 people in a village...hmmm.

Just had installed Pipex 1Meg - £33.99 pcm, not quite the cheapest, but the cheaper ones didn't offer certain services. I get a specialised BBCi service, 50Mb webspace, etc. ADSL connection is immediate [BT ADSL in office takes about 15 minutues before getting line!!] Contract period only 1 month as well. although if you stop with first year, you have to reimburse them the FREE £52.88 coinnection fee.

I am still using PAYG BT Yahoo services; all I have to do is dial in every 90 days to keep BT account activated.

So, America's Arny - lol. Once done basic training [and eventually sussed why my middle mouse button didn't work], entered live for the first time. What a rush......dead within about 5 secs!! Other goes faired better, even managed to shoot a few enemies.

Paul, how far did you get with it? Have you done all those Special Forces training?

THat sort of speed makes me jealous! We will upgrade as soon as we get freeview and save the money on NTL: digital televsion (currently all we can use because our TV tuner in the main TV has failed).

I began to get bored with all of the training. I started medicine and did one part of the special forces training but then got bored - it's weird having to learn things for a computer game! I wanted to adv. marksmenship but the option is blanked out. Oh i did the parachuting ones (very easy and quick!)

Well done for killing anybody, took me about 5 games. I hate dying early then watching it all, with enemy territory, you get redeployed within usually 20 seconds so it's very quick moving, lots of deaths, lots of goes and basically you get to play for most of 20 minutes and you have to complete objectives. It just flows a lot better but technically isn't anywhere near as good!

I am also running AA on highest res mode [everything cranked up], on a 1600*1200 res 20.1" TFT - feels so realistic, with very minimal glitches, and no noticeable slowdown.

Advance marksmenship can only be done if you score 36 or more on basic marskmenship i.e. can only waste 4 bullets accross the 2 mags. Not quite there yet myself! I find watching the other guys makes me learn what the hell I have to do - my first 'true' kill did feel kinda strange though [my first kill was another team mate - oops! - hey, he was in my sites, had an itchy trigger finger].

I want to persevere with training - just looking at all the other available servers and scenarios, one hell of a game!

I can have it pretty high on my lappy, will see just how high in a bit (3.06 P4-M, HP, 512mb, Geforce 128mb FX 5600go) just limited by a 15.4" 1400x1050 screen.

Cheers for that advice, thought it might be something like that but couldn't be bothered to read it! Rather get into the game. Might give it a go now, do you use gamespy?

My fav is probably FLS assault. Two bunkers and a hanger, parachute in, attack or defend depening on side. Both very difficult!

I think Gamespy was loaded on install; normally wary of these things, but musy have clicked on Yes.

I am only using P4 2.8 HT [with 512k cache & 800FSB], but got 1Gb Ram, and a 256Mb Radeon 9600XT card. Also running on a 120*2Gb RAID 0 HDD, 128k strip, so read/write times are virtually immaterial.

Must get my para training sorted; it sounds easy, but failed miserably two times I tried. Knowing when to flare. Any hints?

Never had any trouble, about 1.5 seconds or a little more before touch down. Use night vision (v) if it makes it easier. I failed first time because of aim (you prtty much just drop straight down as i remember) but I tried to aim and failed badly!

That's a very nice comp just I need the portability of being able to carry my comp to places and back.

I just clicked yes because it sounded like it was needed for online playing.

Ah, so a quick flare at the end. It mentioned something about rolling 90 degrees or something! How?

I only just finished building PC - took me ages just speccing up parts, but well pleased with end result. My first build. It weighs a ton, though. BUT everything is in black. I use my office laptop at work, and hate everything about it - very old, mind you.

I believe laptops are getting more serious and have been over the last 6 months. They can now play brand new games at top settings - that was never possible until recently. I moved from a P400 to this 3060...slight difference! Mine is heavy too, given the power it's not a suprise. my next plan is turning my old old p233 into a hifi jukebox.

I have never rolled, it seems to do it by itself, do a quick flare at the end and just let it do its job, i usually move my mouse to the right but just because it looks funny, maybe that helps..?! if you need to roll,, try a or d or , or . a or d are strafing, , and . are look left/right or if laying down, rollign left/right.

Once I even managed to land so well i stood up perfectly without any loss in health lol.

I can't believe we are the only two on here playing this awesome game! Download only 650Meg, could fit onto a CD-R if needed and post it out for a nominal fee to cover costs!

My works laptop is an Advent 500Mhz Celeron, 256k, 20Gb, Win98SE - basically, now a hunk of junk. OK for spreadsheets, which is what it was bought for. Plus once connected to server at work, can surf net, etc. Also, free!

Celerons = ughh! Not awful for business type activity but they lack any sort of power for any large tasks and lag well behind. Both my parents have Toshiba laptops (given free to some teachers/heads in Nottinghamshire) with celerons, (1.4ghz i think?) and when I compared, I couldn't believe how slow they felt. They also bought a desktop with a celeron and again, pretty slow. Having said that, I understand why schools/businesses use celerons because they give the power required for a much lower cost than P4 but soon I expect AMD will overtake their sales. I have had bad experiences with AMD in the past.

Maybe people have something better to do?! FLS assault is good, just very difficult, other favourite is the bridge but very small map.

I am going on to it now I think.

Just came back from a couple of games n the bridge, both times this idiot on my own team threw a grenade to my feet! First time I thought it was a gas grenade, thought, fine, good. Then boom, second time I knew he was an idiot so ran but it got me anyway. Grr, annoying! Got to get some hmk done now.

Not into many games really except ET and AA. I have Age of Empires somewhere from kazaa (ssshhh!!) but I never played it online. I played against my gf's brother and we both let each other use cheats! It ended up me having 100 bombing turret and we couldn't get in! He kept attacking, dying, then I went back, died and so on. I was winning slowly but it was still a stupid game! AofE is a good game but I can't remember where I put it.

The AMD k6-500 is what put me off AMD! Wouldn't work properly ever in my mum's old machine and it had a Voodoo 3 3500 16mb card (£229 at the time!) which never worked properly with it and hence was a waste of lots of money - we got ripped off with that.

Woo hoo, airbourne training now completed.

Did the first jump first time thanks to your advice; out of plane took about 8 or 9 goes, kept landing safe but not in circle. Feels good now I got it - practice does make perfect.

Version 2.1 is now online - patch only 142Meg, so not too bad. Just installed it, but not sure of new features just yet.

I believe you can take control of some mounted weapons eg. on tanks? I didn't download it, just been playing the old version, let me know if it's worth it? We will have to have a little game vs. each other - i have played a few times recently for relaxation!

Funnily enough, I haven't played it for ages.

But at my brother-in-laws house earlier today, showed him the site and clocked the upgrade.
