ford escort 1995 1.6 si

brought it last night from auction seemed ok till driving home.
This is what happens if i lightly touch the accelerator it will drive if i say go over 2000rpm i get loss of power and a restricting type of noise from the exhaust it is also very hard the get up hills. The car will rev ok when clutch is down.
I only got it late last night so i havent even lifted the bonnet yet as it was dark. the clutch and gear box are fine no smoke from exhaust.
I suspect the air flow could be blocked or something is blocking flow though the exhaust (cat broken)

I am nvq level 1 trained in mechanics so not to good on diagnosis yet so i could do with a little help to get me on my way.

i'll have a tinker tonight and try whatever you guys can surgest.

thanks neil

That'll be the catelytic converter then, nowt to worry about, you can get the whole exhaust system from buypartsby.com for < £115. Unless you've had it changed recently get the whole system, its simply easier to change it than try and separate the Joints IMO. Also, the haynes manual is good for this procedure, done it twice (both me and my flat mate have the same car, and its happened to both of ours mines a 1993 and his is a '95)

thanks for confirming my suspisions looking to just get a 2nd hand cat as i dont keep my cars very long.
