Late last year I got a quote of £1600 for a group 9 car.

Group 2-3 car now im being quoted £2300 cheapest!!! £2800 for same group 9 car as last time. All same details!! WTF!

its not really based on vehicle grouping much anymore, its more based on demographics of drivers and cars you usually hear/see smashed up (stats), tis funny/unfortunate how much difference this makes. What car was it you were looking into getting?

Im just looking at renewing my 1.1 206. Been getting quotes on loads of cheap insurance cars and old ones I've had. All of them over £2300 :(

Only paid £2000 on my 1st years insurance. 4 years down the line they want more :S Not made any claims at all

I just wrote like a 2000 page essay on how w@nk insurance is, and how it could be improved, and said some pretty inspiring stuff that could get someone elected as the PM.

But I realised that it was, infact, a waste of time even saying any of it. Insurance is, and for a very long time, will be a form of gun-point robbery.

All you can do is limit the damage is does to your wallet. For example; have a **** car - its cheaper! Or get the push bike out and lose some fat whilst your saving on fuel, tax and insurance.

I'd be interested to see your essay and review your understanding of insurance and how it works :)

Insurance is far from ****, and is heavily regulated, so isn't just gun point robbery (y)

I rang up my insurers to add the girlfriend for a week (not a bad price - £51 despite only holding a license about 4 months). Ran through the usual "checking your details, sir"

Bastards stung me for an extra £30 a month because I'm no longer at college, and the car is now at home - postcode area is worse. Don't quite know how, Fleetwood isn't exactly a nice town (nor is Grimsby to be fair).

Thinking I'd have been better leaving it parked up at college for 8 months whilst I'm at sea :/

To be honest and not to rub salt into anybodys wounds but just insured a 61 plate sporting for £1113/year. This is a drop of £365 from an astra 1.6 life 105. Whilst certain details have changed between the policies, as the astra was my mums insurance and I was main driver and the sporting is my policy with my mum as a named driver, I dont really understand it but hey-ho, not complaining to be fair, but I'd suggest phoning the company up when you get your renewal or quote though as sometimes it helps.

(Mine was through Aviva for both cars).

I could be really annoying and say that I got insured on a 528i 2.8 for £590 fully comp at 22 ;).

Insurance in Scotland is far cheaper than anywehre else in the UK, quite odd really when you think about some of the rougher places in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Thought mine would shoot up this year, just payed it off in full :p

Paid £670 last year with Admiral fully comp, now this year for renewal they wanted just shy of £600 fully comp but i thought as i have four years ncb i'd protect it. This put the price up to about £660. Compare the market said i could get the same cover with protection from a company i'd not heard of for about £620, i phoned Admiral and explained i could get it cheaper elsewhere. I'd taken off the extra personal injury, seemed a bit pointless in my circumstances so that took off £30 and the phone operator gave me a further £50 discount so they could keep my business. In the end i got it cheaper than their renewal but protected too and it was cheaper than any quote on the comparison sites ;) (before adding protection!!)

So from over £650 protected to £555.

Something i'll always look into in the future, it seems haggling and playing companies against each other works. A discount to keep you, especially now where everyone wants your money (y)

When the insurance companies are creating middle-man companies between themselves and the garages who fix the cars, just so they can add on a few hundred per claim - you know the regulators might as well go home for the good they are doing.

Insurance companies are almost exclusively managed by slimy creatures dredged from the bottom of polluted lakes. It's a scam and nobody has the power to change anything since the insurance companies are the ones pulling all the strings in government.
