Quick question.... do disposable cameras have a time limit that they need to be used by? Is it ok to use them after their 'use by' date? If so, how long after is it safe to use them?

Cheers!

Hi hun,

Yes they have a use by date but not sure how long after that expires that you can use them. If they're for your wedding babe i wouldn't take the chance unless its just for the guests or kids to use x

yeah its for the wedding, we have been given the cameras, which are 6 months out of date... they're only to stick on the tables for use by kids and guests lol... plus i'm hiding as I hate having my pic taken

lol, they should be fine for that then, but make sure you have about half again that are in date so you're not too disappointed if they don't work :)

If they were all kept together and you have a load of them why not shoot pictures on one of them and see if they come out with acceptable colour?

If it looks horrible they're not worth using, though in all likelyhood they'll be OK ish.

ive seen disposables that were a few years out of date and still give a perfect photo, there was a shop around here that sold them for 2euro and my sis took a load on them on a holiday.,

cheers for the replies

like has been said, we'll have to try one out and see what the pics turn out like, if not any good they were for free so cant really moan.

will let you know when we've collected them and tried one (y)

The date on the camera is the use by date on the film inside. This is a rough guide but will indicate that the film inside is around a year and a half old when it gets to the use by date.

6 months past the use by date shouldnt affect the film much. If anything, you might find the prints will be slightly discoloured or desaturated, but any good laboratory (independant, not tescos/boots) will correct them for you when printing.

When I used to work in a lab, we once managed to get results from an Illford HP3 black and white film that had been sat in the back of someones camera for over 30 years! Mind, the results wernt great but you could still see details in the faces :)
