Hi guys, typically as my dad the mechanic goes on holiday my car has issues.

began yesterday when starting, the revs dip and a definite misfire on tick over.
this morning the problem was so bad it stalled twice on the driveway but with a restart and a few presses of the accelerator pedal and it seemed to iron out.

any ideas as to whats wrong with my idea?

FWIW- egr and maf are deffo not the issue

Could be the DPF is clogged up may need to regenerate, stop start driving clogs em up. ECU will instruct the engine to chuck more fuel in when you are at high speed to raise the DPF temperature up to blow out soot that has accumulated. Beware though they only regenerate so many times. It will clog up again, loss of power and increase in fuel are the tell tale signs. Best bet is to get rid of the DPF, have it re-mapped and then you will have more performance and not have the £900 expense of a replacement DPF every 4-5 years. And "NO" it doesn't affect the MOT emissions.

Improve your Diesel Car Performance

Modern Diesel engine cars are fitted with Diesel Particle Filters (D.P.F.).

With the constant “Stop/Start” of normal urban driving D.P.F’s will clog up with soot. The engine management will regenerate the DPF by injecting a larger amount of fuel to raise the temperature to burn off the soot. Regeneration cannot clear all the soot from the DPF so eventually the car will lose power, increase fuel consumption resulting with the Engine Management System placing the car in “Limp Mode”.

2 Options

Remove and replace the D.P.F.
Example: Citroen Xara Picasso 1.6 HDI D.P.F. £425.26 inc vat
Fluid £104 inc vat
Plus removal and fitting !!!!!

2) Alternative: Remove D.P.F. and fabricate a replacement Stainless Steel Pipe, read and re-map ECU to standard program or re-map to a performance enhanced program.
Gains
No future expense of D.P.F.
Increased performance and economy
No effect on emissions

Example: Citroen Picasso 1.6 HDI 90 BHP increases to 112 BHP
Torque 215 Nm increases to 247 Nm

Torque increases will result in higher miles per gallon

no DPF on this model, I've taken it out for a blast and its all good.
incidentally I took it out yesterday and found it to be flat and put it down to the how humid it was and next time it was started was this morning, given it a blast round the block and some injection cleaner and all good again

Ok...this problem has resurfaced.
first start of the day and the car takes three attempts to start then all is well, it never happens after its been started for the first time untilled the next day.
diagnostics find no errors and no dash lights to warn of a problem.
my only though is maybe fuel runback over night and the slave pump in the tank is faulty
