Hiya, I got this radio the other day from Aldi which I link with my iPod. I looked on this forum and found out to connect the Red and Yellow wires together I didn't know fully how so my brother did it for me and put it in and it worked which is great. Problem is drove home at about 4 yesturday took the front off the radio got in the car at 12 today and tried to turn the car on and it struggled but finally started. However the clock was flashing 00:00 and i had lost the presets on my new radio. So I think the battery may have been really low or something?

Sorry my knowledge of cars and radios etc is very minimal I only just know how to drive :p

Do you have any idea why this is and a way to fix it I'd hate to get in the car and it not to turn on.

The Car is an 05 Punto MK2B apprently - I tried to use the search but couldnt find anything that matched a MK2B

Thanks!

Vicky

Model sounds right to me (MK2B) basically a mark 2 Punto (like mine but) with a facelift!

I experienced a similar problem in my MK2 when I purchased a CD player online. Does the CD player have a backlight on it?
If so, does the backlight stay on even if the engine is switched off?

I must stress that if the CD player does have a backlight, you should ideally remove the faceplate (or "front of the radio" as you call it! :) ) from the CD player when the engine is turned off - when you are not using the car.

Leaving the faceplate fixed on overnight with a backlight will drain the battery and did happen to me and cost me a new battery AND CD player! :p

Hiya! I always remove the front plate of the Radio, when I leave the car all thats left is the bit the cd goes in which has a little Red LED that flashes.

Red light flashing... think that's a security light, I'm pretty sure mine has one, too, that shouldn't drain much, if anything at all.

Have you used the radio whilst the car engine is switched off? I doubt that would affect it tbh but stranger things have happened!

Also do you know the voltage of the Headunit? Headunits in Punto's *I think* (don't quote me on this) have a maximum voltage of 12v, if the voltage is too high it could be overloading the power and putting strain on the battery!

Yours does sound like a similar problem to the issue I experienced earlier this year, but my Punto's battery was on its way out anyway, so it's just as well my CD player kinda killed it off!

You need to splice off of a switched live feed like the Ignition which is the orange wire under the steering coulomb or you may be able to tap into the Cigar lighter wiring. Just check it doesnt work with the ignition off first.
Remember that your new wiring wont have a protective fuse so you will need to put one inline with the new wire.

I've had a similar problem. Now I just press the release button which cuts power to the cd player. It hasnt happened since, though I would like to wire it so it switches off with the ignition.
