Hi I.C.E. guru's,

Can anyone tell me at which point the cable that goes to the front speakers splits in two separate cables that go to the tweeter and woofer?

I need to know this, because I've installed a new compo set in front.
At the right side there was already something changed at the cables, so that was quite easy to modify, but at the left side everything is still stock and I want to know where I can cut the cable to get it mounted in the cross-overs that are supplied with the compo set, because now the set is playing on the right side perfect with the supplied cross-overs while at the left no cross-over is mounted.

And please don't be too hard on me if my English is a bit crappy :yum:

At the right side it's all working like it should, but at the left side everything is still stock, I just need to know which cable is the one that comes from the radio and goes to the door, I know the cable is black/red - white/black, but if I look at the big plug that goes into the door than there are 4 cables that have that same color and 4 others that come out at the other side and going to the tweeter and the woofer (pink/black - purple/black), so that means that the cable splits way before the door, but everything is built too tight so I can't look nowhere to track it down.

Im not sure where it splits but i just cut the wires at the HU end and wired the speakers to my amp from there. I have the x-over in the door so i wired the tweeter directly from there.
What car do you have.

Someone had done that at the right speaker, that's why I could make it work easy.

I would like to do that also for the left side, but it's one hell of a job to get the cable from the HU to the door :p

I drive a Mk2 Punto Sporting

Well are you amping them up.
You go from amp into the front to the car on the HU (i used a spare harness block so i didnt have to cut the HU or cars wiring) Then you dont have to worry about geting through the door because you are tapping into the cars standard wiring then i extended the wires that are normally connected to the speakers into the X-over (which i have hidden in the door panels) then from the X-over to the woofer and the tweeter.
It really isnt as hard as i make it sound.

I ain't planning to amp them up, I think it should work just fine if you use a good HU.

I'll figure something out to make it work just fine, all I need is more time then the busy schedule I'm on right now :p.

*Edit: I've just came to a clear moment right now :p

Is it possible if I take the cables that go to tweeter and woofer in the original cable (because I think the cross-over is in the original tweeter and it's just parallel splitted) and connect them to the cross-over that belongs with the compo, and from that I'll go to the tweeter and woofer?

Yep just extend the wire from the woofer/compo to the x-over then back to each the tweeter and woofer.

Yes sir! It's all working nicely now :), I've put the crossover behind the doorpanel, than I've cut the cables that went to the tweeter and extended it, then I put that one together with the one going to the woofer at the stock setup into the input of the crossover, from there to the tweeter and woofer and it worked. ;)

Strange that I didn't think about that one before, it's all that simple :D

My new HU was delivered today, so tommorow I will put that in place of the cd-changer. I think it will be one hell of a job getting the cables down to that area. The stock Blaupunkt cassette will stay operative as well.

Nice one it sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is doesnt it. Anyway why do you need the stock tape player. Also i think that it will be a bit tight to fit a HU in place of the CD changer as the changer is smaller at the back and the HU has a lot deeper wires.

It's a figure of speech :D.

What is the easiest way to get the cables from where they are stock, down to the cd-changer compartment?

Well if you are using the Stock HU aswell :bang: Then the easiest way to get them down would be to get a Spare ISO power block (do you get the feeling i like using spare blocks) Then splice off of the wires then bunch the wires together with electrical tape and just pass them through where ever you can and then attach them to the other end of the block once they are in the right place. Sorry i am really bad at explaining things. Sorry i cant tell you the best way through i really cant remember what its like back there in a punto.

But you do know the Cartoon dont you.

Well who doesn't

Yeah I have a spare ISO-block and I will indeed just bridge them over, but the only issue I have, is that I can't disconnect the plug that gives power to the cassette as it is a second(third)hand car and I don't have the code of the radio and the sticker on the radio is missing/not readable, so on that one I will use scotch-locks or whatever they're called.

The wires included with the new HU are quite long, so it can get halfway up.

I saw that it is quite a closed setup in the area where the cd-changer was located (at the cassette area also), there isn't much open space where you can 'feel' to lead the wires up/down, there is a small opening where the connection for the power to the cd-changer comes in.

I think I will wake up tommorrow a bit early so I have plenty of time to figure things out.

I'll keep you posted.

That is why you put the ISO on after routing the wires through so you can fit them into smaller gaps. There is an opening that go's past the glove box it is very tight but doable so if all else fails you could take that rout.

Well it took me awhile but I did it, for powering the HU I've found a connector that was taped in, it had a direct + and a switched one, so I took the wires from there, the connector was hidden behind the ashtray area. Now if i turn of the key the HU also switches off :). But I didn't find it untill I had all my hands open from trying to squeeze the wires through :p, only thing is that the cassette doesn't work anymore, and I didn't take the power of it, so that is a bit strange...
