hi

just had a trip down to halfords as my headunit has starting playing up.
For ages its been crackly when you push button etc on the unit itself. indicating to me that the connections between the face and the actual unit were knackered. there are visible stratches on the unit where the face connection pins meet. so popped in to have it repaired, and was told another problem with the unit.
apparently on my unit, becuase of the constant movement of the face the data ribbon that connects the face and the unit, on early models can get damaged and start to fray. well as mine was one of the first units made, guess what, it had this faulty ribbon, so thats being done too. which in a way, is a good thing, becuase it means one less trip to have it repaired. so while its out im going to tidy up all the cables.

As you can see, there slightly messy. hopefully ill somewhere to pack them all into. I just found a hole above the cradle that holds the HU, so might be able to get them in there?

I'm going to stow away my wires below the lower compartment, where you have all your cd's, I think I will try and bodge together something in order for it to work

I finish uni at the end of next week. 5 whole weeks to get car all perfect and kitted out. I think in that time I mite try and build some kind of cover to bridge teh gap between the bulkhead and the back of the stereo. where all my cables come down now. if there just hidden away that should look ok. just looks crap with them all dangling.
nice idea about using the shelf, thats another alternative.

thanks guys

I also forgot to put in order to make may head unit fit with all my wires going to the amp, I am going to have to hacksaw the bar behind where the head unit sits, I have no alternative because otherwise it keeps blowing fuses

You've got 5 weeks off!!! NICE:)

I've heard of problems with the OEL display at the back of your headunit losing pixels, but never problems with the sliding screen.
I've got a motorised 4-year old Pioneer (one of the very first OEL model) and i've never had any problems with it.

nothing wrong with the screen. well not that i can see anyway.
yeo 5 weeks, to play with car, until its perfect and is just the way i want it. one slight problem though. cash. i need lots lol.
probaably just going to fit, rear arm rest speakers, and re do all the wiring from stereo.
think money is going to be too tight to get amp, so looks like boot install is going to have to wait untill june, when my next break starts. june 5th to 1st october lol. I love uni hehe.

thanks for the help
